| What's the world coming to!? What's the world coming to when a politician can't call his opponents "girlie-men?" This is ridiculous. http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=stor...r_girlie_men_3

| I like him a bit more now. This was my favorite part of the article. The silly liberals are so funny. Quote:
Democrats said Schwarzenegger's remarks were insulting to women and gays and distracted from budget negotiations. State Sen. Sheila Kuehl said the governor had resorted to "blatant homophobia."
"It uses an image that is associated with gay men in an insulting way, and it was supposed to be an insult. That's very troubling that he would use such a homophobic way of trying to put down legislative leadership," said Kuehl, one of five members of the Legislature's five-member Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Caucus.
"It's ironic that the governor would try to find a metaphor for weakness when his real problem is that we're being too strong," she added.

| why is it considered a "silly liberal" comment when he what he said could be easily taken as derogatory? it's a pretty ignorant thing for a politician to say in the first place.

| Perhaps it's coming to a place where lawmakers getting in front of reporters and name-calling like grade-school children is considered inappropriate behavior? |

It should also be inappropriate to let your celebrity entertainment say whatever they want at your conventions. It should be just as inappropriate to let them do your insulting for you, especially when you can stop it and don't. But we won't talk about the "other side" and their insulting tactics because we're just as biased as them.

| There are several problems with your comparison.
Firstly, you changed "in appropriate for them to" to "inappropriate to let them".
I assume you are referring to Whoopi, and I assume you are referring to the "one Bush and one Dick just as God intended" joke. I don't find it *quite* the same, but it may be inappropriate, yes. I do think smear campaigns are unbecoming. |

I had a reference in an older thread, however, that showed how Bush's television commercials haven't been as insulting towards Kerry as most people would have you beleive. I believe 2 out of his first 6 were "negative" while many people were saying all of them had been.

| I did not say that, so I will not attempt to defend those who did. Both sides have said a lot negative... but I'm less commenting on "he's doing this wrong" than "he's a pinko commie" or "he's an conservative nutjob" or "they are girlie men just catering to special interests".
I'd prefer substantative accusations to rhetoric and name-calling. |

| There is nothing wrong with name-calling if it has meaning behind it. Calling someone a poopyhead has no meaning or purpose behind it. Calling someone a girlie-man is supposed to say that they lack the balls to do X. It is designed to make a point.

| This is rediculous: if John Kerry called Bush a "girlie-man", the media would have NO problem whatsoever with it. I swear the media takeover of the government is disgusting. Thank God for FOXNews...
