Square Roots (grade 10)

Hi
I failed math () so I am in internet summer school.
I have a problem that I dont get.
The question is:

Find two solutions to the following equation
x2=24
**NOTE**thats x to the power of 2, I just dont know how to make an exponent

The two answers are 4.90 and -4.90 (I found that out by way of cheating on the program-its not for marks, just extra help)

I knew the 4.90 but can it always be negative also?

Yeah. If you multiply two negatives together, the answer is positive.

The way to denote squares, cubes, or other POWERS on the computer is like so: x^2 means x squared. y^42 means y to the 42nd power.
