So really, "What is the air speed velocity of an unlaiden swallow?"
It's quite simple:
Drag on a body in a fluid is:
D = 1/2 (Cd*pi*r^2*rho*Vo^2) Cd = coefficient of drag of the swallow pi = 3.1415... r = radius of bird cross-section (approximating as a circle) rho = viscosity of air Vo = velocity For steady state flight, D (drag) = T (thrust), so:
------------------------------
| Vo = sqrt(T/Cd*pi*r^2*rho) |
------------------------------ |

If everything works out, I might be doing something in a few weeks that I've never done before: teaching an adult Sunday School class.
The elders / pastor of my church kind of asked me to put together a class on hymnody. Being the perfectionist (more like completist, really) that I am, it's been taking me awhile to think of how to do it properly. I found a great text a few weeks ago, and finally finished up the course outline today.
The next session of SS classes is supposed to start in about three weeks, so they'll need to review the outline and order the books.
I'm kind of nervous. I've never taught an adult class before, really. Hmm.

So here's what happened:
I was coming home from work Friday evening. It had been raining all day.
Exactly one street before I turn off of the highway on the street that leads to our house, some lady stops to turn pretty quickly without signaling for it.
I wasn't following particularly close, but wasn't expecting her to stop either. When I hit the brakes to slow down to avoid her, I skidded [skud? skid? skad? ick... they're all bad] about 20 or 25 feet.
Boom.
So, our only car has a busted driver's side front-end, a busted radiator, battery, maybe fusebox, and I don't know what else. Oh, and the airbags deployed.
We don't carry collision, because the car had almost 300K miles on it and was almost 15 years old, but we were short on cash to pay for a new [used] car.
So, it's been pretty tough trying to find something in our budget and decent.
Yesterday, though, I think we found something that's a really good deal and will serve us well. It's a 2004 Pontiac Vibe [Toyota Corolla engine] with 130K in good shape except for a bunch of dirt.
For $3,995, and the guy is willing to take offers. We're getting a great price.
Our bank worked us out a loan, despite not having any significant credit history [but great credit], and that should go through on Monday, which is also the day we're planning to purchase the car.
I'll let y'all know on Monday if we're driving our spiffy new wheels. Woohoo.
This isn't the car, but looks just like it:

| Those not only have the Toyota engine, but isn't the frame essentially the same as another Toyota too? I don't think it's the Rav 4, but it may be. I can't remember exactly right now.

For some reason I couldn't think of it, but I do know that the Matrix has a better re-sale value despite it being practically the same car. I guess the name just goes farther in this instance.

| I've been in contact with the church down in Slidell. Todd (the pastor there) just moved back to Michigan after being there three years. I'm waiting to see if they would be interested in me moving back down there and taking Todd's spot. Part of me is glad to be here in NC but I can honestly say that I miss the Gulf Coast terribly. |

Second, did you ever tell me the name of that church? It's possible I see it everyday on my way to / from work. Heh.
Third, there are about five nice houses for sale on our street.
