Basically, I just didn't know what I wanted for Christmas one year. We were in RadioShack, and my mom suggested that we get one of the cheapy Casio knock-off keyboards that were on display. I agreed, and a friend of mine who had been playing for years began to teach me how to play piano. I practiced on my little 61-key unweighted keyboard, got fairly good, and eventually came to love the instrument. Then, I got my 88-key fully-weighted synth and started practicing on my church's nine-foot grand.
That's about it!

Nate

| Wooo... only two exams left. I'm so happy.
Hey, I just posted a recording of a hymn that I wrote... go here ( http://www.loyno.edu/~nmstraig/calvary.htm) and click on "Listen to it!" and tell me what you think.
I apologize in advance for my horrible voice.
In His love,
Nate

| Your voice is no worse than mine. I like to think of my singing as a work in progress. What are the two exams that you have left on? What course are you taking exactly?

Quote: | What course are you taking exactly? | My major is music business with an emphasis in piano performance. I'll end up with a Bachelor's degree in Music with electives in music business.
This semester, I had copyright/publishing/contracts, music theory, music technology, world religions, piano, university chorus, and music business forum.
I'm about to leave to go to school for my copyright exam... wish me luck!

Nate

| Welll anyway... all my finals are done now... so I'm just waiting for my grades to be posted on Loyola's online student data thing. So far, the only ones to be posted are for choir, copyright, and recital hour. I got an A in choir, an A in copyright, and I passed recital hour (it's a pass/fail).
Yay.
In His love,
Nate

I know I'm going to get an A in music theory and an A in music technology... I'm pretty sure that I'm going to get an A in religion... I just don't know how well I did in piano.
So now I play the waiting game.
In His love,
Nate

| Ok... well my religion grade was just posted last night. It's an A, so I'm happy. I'm still waiting on music tech, music theory, and piano. I know that music tech and music theory will both be A's, I just don't know about piano.
Anyways... yesterday was fun. Catherine and I went with a friend of mine to be a "studio audience" of sorts for a lecturer who was filming a promo video. It was actually a very interesting lecture. He spoke about the effects of media and advertising on people's minds... and in particular, how it relates to the alchohol and tobacco markets. I usually don't agree with people who try to convince us that the media is brainwashing us, but I thought he was actually right on target with most of his stuff. His presentation was very graphic and incorporated all sorts of media... pictures of advertisements, documentary videos from news broadcasts, etc. It was pretty cool.
Well, after that, Catherine dropped me off at home so that I could make a few phone calls that I needed to make. I got done with all of my stuff and then called her up to see if she wanted to go out to dinner at Damon's (a really great place to eat ) 'cause I had a coupon for a free appetizer. She said yes... yay.
So, I went and picked her up... and then we drove over to Loyola so I could get an official copy of my transcript sent to the state department of education. I made it to the school just in time... I walked into the student records office five minutes before they were supposed to close. So, I was really happy that I made it in time.
After I got that all taken care of, we went to Guitar Center and World Market and just wandered around for awhile ('cause it was still too early for dinner). Then we went over to Damon's and ate. We got Tuscan Shrimp Dip for our free appetizer... it was really good. Yummy yummy. We played the little trivia game thingy (NTN trivia, I guess it's becoming a common thing at sports oriented restaurants... which Damon's is. Funny thing, 'cause neither I nor Catherine like sports.) and got second place... only 'cause we didn't know any of the last five questions.
Then we left and went back over to her house and watched American Idol and Mr. Personality. *sigh*... reality shows... strangeness.
Anyways... that was my day yesterday. It was great. Yay.
Ok... I don't have anything else to say now.
In His love,
Nate

| This is me [Nate] posting as my girlfriend, 'cause she's logged in and I don't feel like logging out..... *sigh*, I'm lazy.
Anyways, just wanted to let y'all know that I got an A in piano... so I will have a 4.0 this semester. That means that my overall GPA for my freshman year will be about 3.95. Yay! Happy me!
In His love,
Nate... kind of

So really, "What is the air speed velocity of an unlaiden swallow?"
It's quite simple:
Drag on a body in a fluid is:
D = 1/2 (Cd*pi*r^2*rho*Vo^2) Cd = coefficient of drag of the swallow pi = 3.1415... r = radius of bird cross-section (approximating as a circle) rho = viscosity of air Vo = velocity For steady state flight, D (drag) = T (thrust), so:
------------------------------
| Vo = sqrt(T/Cd*pi*r^2*rho) |
------------------------------ |

| Good for you Nate! Now just do that for a few more years and you'll be home free! Or at least you'll know a whole lot about music.
