Subject To Change (NY)

Hello, my band is called Subject To Change, we're based in upstate New York. I know there are at least five other acts out there who have the same though, so for now we just slapped an "(NY)" behind it. I'd say our sound is punk/rock, but we also have alot of other flavors under the category "rock", such as a hint of emo, a pinch of metal, and other random stuff like that. We're independent as far as record labels go, but I'm startin a private label called "Home Street Underpass Records", just for the fun of it . We're in the midst of recording an EP, I'd say it'll have about five or six songs, and will be finished before the end of July, we've already recorded half of it.

our official website is
www.angelfire.com/ny5/subject_to_change

You can hear two of our songs that are fresh from the recording studio at www.purevolume.com/subjecttochangeny

Thats all for now folks, tell me what ya think.

I thought I'd heard of you before and I had. I had your song It's Your Fault on my computer, but it's a live recording and it's hard to hear. I'm glad that you guys got some better ones. Things sound good, good luck.

thanks, yeah, I was really happy to replace those horribly low quality clips, .

So, any comments on the songs themselves?

I just wanna give some props to your drummer. I'm not crazy about the vocals. The intro to the song Occlusion is reeeeeeally long, I almost thought it was an instrumental for a second there, but the music wasn't too bad. Then again I don't listen to a lot of bands like this so I don't really know how original it is, but cool.

Anyway, I couldn't help but notice your site is hosted on angelfire. I can get you a cheap domain name & hosting space (I sell it). I also do some cheap design for bands, so if you're possibly interested in that, email me and I'll quote you a price. hj@rakel.us

Well, like I said, things sound good. After the clean intro, Occlusion reminds me of some Thrice. Not Certain is reminiscent of Fat Wreck Chords kind of stuff like No Use for a Name or Lagwagon. Your drummer is pretty darn good. I also think some vocal harmonies here and there would really add to your sound. It seems like you guys are still coming into your own, and I know that you're a pretty young band, so that's understandable. I think you guys could go places, just keep writing and playing.

As long as you completely wipe out the vocals, you are an enjoyable band.

We pick on our vocalist enough, I don't think I'll tell that to him directly

Our last song we recorded has nice three-part harmonies, it's a good one.

Interesting...

My friend Jon (who is in the music business) actually is very fond of Mitch's voice for this style of music, but everyone's got a right to their opinions...

Alrighty, we'll definately put that into consideration.

Well, here's a little bandish story, my grampa and the grampa of the drummer and guitarist/lead singer (they're identical twins) played in a Jazz trio together for a long time, and they toured the country. Our bass player is not a descendant of the third member, but that would be mad cool if he was.

I wouldn't go that far. I think he just needs to grow as a singer and find his niche. He definitely needs to do some fine tuning, but I think he could be a good singer with practice.

And Jared, without any inclination to be nice or forgiving, kindly disagrees and insists that the singer must be muzzled.

Judging from "Not Certain," you guys have great pop sensibility. Exploit that. Mute the singer. Only international rock stardom is the next logical step.

I liked the double bass. A little finetuning on the vocals would help, but I'm not complaining. You guys just need to grow. Oh, and who screamed? Was it the same guy? It sounded a bit like newer ZAO stuff. Yes, all of this is in reference to "Occlusion"

Hate the vocals, love the instruments. Add me to the "find someone else to sing" group.

Hey, I listened to that new one the other day, but I forgot to post. It sounds good, it seems like you're getting better.
