Oh, well I definitely wouldn't generalize as such, but I must say that that scenario in "method" books has been prevailingly my experience with many of the "Mel Bay" style "method" books that have been out there, and the teaching scenario you outlined - which, by the way, I never alluded to, spoke of, or generallized about - actually has cropped up more often than not.
I was simply responding to what I experienced as a needlessly disparaging and discouraging commentary on FBL, suggesting that it is a needlessly challenging book, when I didn't experience as such.
You then alluded to it being challenging
whereas learning your first song makes the learning process much more pallatable. Well, considering that FBL isn't a beginner song book, nor is it about that, I didn't get the connection. That correlation was non-sequitous at best, unless you were suggesting that the fact that FBL didn't have any songs outlined in it somehow made it a lesser book.
Given that that was my only logical conclusion, apart from assuming your comments to be non-sequitous (which isn't in the least bit like you), I figured that that was what you were alluding to.
This is all ironic since Bill has three song transcriptions to some rather fun little ditties which are free of charge and beautifully demonstrate the principles in use.
