| I agree with Roihclem said up there; just play your best for God. The point of P&W is to bring people into a place where they can meet God through music. However, they won't do this unless they can identify with the music and get into it (most of the time, at least).
This doesn't necessarily condone insane drum fills and guitar solos, though; it just means that the band should consider making some kinda condolences to the kind of congregation. An example is the church band I play for; we play some louder worship pieces (You Are Mighty, My Glorious, etc.), but nothing too crazy. On songs like that, I usually make things a little more complicated and crazy, but I've quickly learned that throwing everything you've got into one song will bore people really quickly. What you really need to learn to do is how to be conservative and be the backbone of the music until such a time comes that the leader lets you fly loose. Do your best to follow their lead and to sound good so that you don't distract people, but not too insanely good so you don't distract them that way either. It's a fine line, and it takes a bit of work to learn where it is. Anyways, I hope God blesses you in your efforts.
