| Cat Problem My cat keeps peeing on the floor in our basement. My dad wants to get her put to sleep, but she hasnt been doing it long. Please, I can't stand something to be killed because of something as dumb as this. Expecially my own pet. I can't think of any solutions except just keeping her outside all the time and only letting her in at night...but she's an inside cat. Is there any kind of solution to this problem?

| not yet. i dont think it is a mdecial condition because she only does it every once in a while. she did it once and now since she smells that she has done it there she feels like she can go there again. weve had her for about...seven years i think. shes getting old but i doubt its a medical condition. i guess i will just have to try and train her to go in the litter box again (she doesnt crap on the floor, by the way, she uses the litterbox for that). i just hope we wont have to put her to sleep...that seems so cruel to me. anyways, we got a plastic drop cloth thing to cover the spot and maybe she wont go there anymore.

| Get something that you can clean the floor with really well so that she can't smell the urine anymore; use it to clean every place she's gone. If she tends to urinate in one particular spot on the floor, consider moving her litterbox there or even placing a second litterbox there. Also, try, if you can, to put something soaked with the fresh urine into the litterbox after she goes on the floor. You will probably also want to start cleaning her litterbox more often. Try to remove any waste as soon as possible after she uses the litterbox, and completely empty and refill the box about every other day or so.
Good luck with your cat. I have four kittens that I am just now trying to litter train... so I kind of know how you feel.
In His love,
Nate

She didn't require any training at all.

| There are products that are designed to help you train pets. I am not sure how they work but I am sure that someone from a local pet store could steer you in the right direction.
Peace,
Rhonda.

| This tends to happen as cats get older. We had my old cat for 17 1/2 years and for the last couple months of her life, she started peeing outside her litter box. As cats get older, they lose a lot of bladder control and this tends to happen. You should take your cat to the vet. They'll tell you if she just needs to be re-trained or if it's because she's old or sick. Whatever you do, don't make her an outside cat. If a cat's been an indoor cat, they don't know how to handle themselves outside. It'd be a really bad idea to do that to her. I hope you figure out the problem soon.

| First, how old is the cat?
There's stuff you can buy at any petstore that you spray on the area where the cat has peed that helps get rid of the pee smell, we're using it for my puppies and the one cat who continuously pees on everything BUT the litter box. A lot of times when animals can't make it to the door or the mat or the litter box in time, and they pee once, they *will* do it again because of that smell, if you can eliminate the odor, it could help. Also see if the cat's behavior has changed. If it has, then that could be the reason for soiling the floor and a good indication that it should be brought to a Vet for a check up to make sure that nothing is wrong with it.
I say all of this because it's what the Vets at the animal hospital I work at have told us in training and informational meetings that we have had.
Retraining a pet is hard. Especially if it's a cat, but it can be done.

| shes...im not even sure anymore...um...shes pretty old. she will probably bite the dust this year or the next. she hasnt changed behavior-wise. shes still a fat, lazy, naive cat. what i did was i took a cloth with the urine on it and put it on the side of the litter box. i think thatll attract her to it. we covered the spot with plastic and sprayed it with this repellant stuff that keeps cats away from it. hopefully this will solve the problem. thanks for the help, i will tell u what happens.

In His love,
Nate | well i think its instinct. when a cat goes they usually cover it up with something, so they prefer sand. thats why cats from all over the neighborhood have taken a bathroom break in our old sandbox at least ten times. but maybe my cat has become so lazy that she actually doesnt want to take the time to use the litterbox.

It's worked well for us, so far.
