wrist issues

Have you ever experienced burning pain in your wrist after playing for an hour or so? This has become a regular occurance for me... it has kept me awake at night... drives me crazy! Do any of you relate, or know what the cause might be??

No idea. But check your posture whilst playing the piano; you should arrange your piano bench so that it's the best height for playing. The best height is one which both allows the elbow/upper arm to fall freely from the shoulder, and allows the forearm to be parallel to the floor when the forearm and hand are in their natural shape -- the way they are when the hand is hanging at the side. This site shows you how.

I find that the fingers on my left hand start to ache after about 45 mins of playing the piano, but my wrists are fine.

i ussualy get that when im typing on my computer keyboard... and that is because i use bad posture when i type on my computer keyboard. When playing keyabord your elbows should be at 90degrees, and your back should be straight. Your wrist should be slighty raised up not resting on the keys.

I must have good posture (though I've never taken lessons), I can play for hours on end and not have sore wrists/fingers.

Yeah, I'll have to watch the posture alittle more. My piano bench is a bit lower than it needs to be, so sometimes I try to heighten it, but most of the time I just want to sit and play! I have found that most of the pain comes when I play Joplin or songs with alot of 8ths or 9ths. So... that said, I guess I'd better lay off for a while and play less "stretchy" music. lol

make sure you sit on the edge of the bench with your wrists straight. Dont curve your hands to play.
