 | Sandra McCracken Rocks!!! Yeah, the title is lacking, but i'm having a creative low. Anyway, to get to the point of this thread. Sandra McCracken, in case you don't know, is one of the best musicians out there. She has amazing vocals, very poetic and deep lyrics, and great skill on the piano or guitar. She is married to ex-Caedmon's Call front-man now solo artist, Derek Webb. Growing up in St. Louis, Sandra attended Twin Oaks Presbyterian Church and began her Christian school, Westminster Christian Academy's very first chapel band where she sang and played the piano. Since then, there has been a chapel band leading during wednesday morning chapel at the school. As Sandra moved up in the music industry, she sang and collaberated with RUF on the Indelible Grace cds along with releasing her first cd entitled The Crucible. Gypsy Flat Roads followed and was reviewed by CCM which said the following: Dave Urbanski, Music Writer CCM Magazine Her vocals—melancholy and merry—at once float above and dart through consistently classy, acoustic-based combos. Her lyrics are snapshots of everyday life, elegantly adorned with poetry, insight and bare truth. Her deep-as-the-oceans album is as inviting as it is haunting. In short, Sandra McCracken has scored big with Gypsy Flat Road. The title (and opening) track adeptly captures the overall thrust of these dozen tunes. Backed by minimal instrumental arrangement that co-opts the impeccable Daniel Lanois production value of acoustic-melded-to-ethereal, McCracken offers vivid, colorful observations as well as subtle, spiritual insights via her close-to-the-earth alto: "Come and drink you who have no money/And it will rain all day… with the bounty of new wine." What’s more, McCracken exudes a homespun vibe even as she wields a mightily poetic, even highbrow, pen. She brilliantly unpacks love (human and divine), family, nostalgia, doubt and a host of other complicated topics here. The only possible shortcoming is that the pace and feel of the album is a bit homogenous. Yet, all 12 are gems--and that`s kind of homogeneous, too. | I never would have guessed! It turns out Sandra is now touring with Hanson! I was very surprised, but then again, i haven't listened to much of their music since...well, a long time ago. I hope it proves to be successful for her and i hope she has a chance to talk to the band (or is it group?). I am looking forward to the time she will be back in the states though, b/c i didn't get the chance to see her show yet, and i really want to buy a cd for cheaper than online. as a poor college student, i have no extra cash for a cd, but a concert and cd would be cheaper... whatever. I just really want to see her (and Derek) in concert and have a chance to get her new music. Until later... -Sarah ps. i told sandra about this site so she could be visiting when she gets back in the states.
