| Who is Jesus and what did He do? - Selected readings from Colossians 1 Read these verses and meditate on who Christ is:
1 Colossians 1:15-18
He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence.
Above all else, this verse makes clear to me that Jesus is, well, above all else. He is over all creation, He is responsible for all creation, He sustains all creation, and He is the purpose of all creation.
Read these verses and meditate on what Christ did:
Colossians 1:19-22
For it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should dwell, and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross. And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight
Isn't it amazing what Jesus did for us? Keep in mind who He is. Think about these things:
1. He who is over all creation died to reconcile His creation to Himself.
2. He who is the purpose of all creation has a purpose for us.
3. He who is to be the object of all our working works to present us holy and blameless and above reproach.
Doesn't this seem like an oxymoron? Or... a mystery?
Colossians 1:27
To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.
Christ, in whom all things consist, lives in us to give us the hope of glory. Praise God!
