| Making a living as a musician So I was curious, who here actually makes a living playing an instrument, singing, teaching etc. It’s always nice to see Christian musicians out on the scene and feel they’re aren’t enough of them at times. Just to encourage a little more conversation, who gigs for extra cash? Also what do you think of it?

| I am paid a small monthly amount by my church for my services as a pianist/worship leader. I also play semi-frequently (like, every few months) at a local coffeehouse; the owner pays me about $10 an hour, usually for about 2 to 3 hours worth of playing. That's pretty much the extent of my making "a living" off of playing music.
In His love,
Nate

| I teach a few guitar lessons to some friends, but that is about it. I don't get paid though.. but that's ok. I enjoy sharing the gift of music with people so it is all good.
Peace,
Rhonda.

| while I was in college I taught private lessons to students for a while, I enjoyed it more for the experience of helping others in the "brave new world" of guitar than for the money (assuming there was any). most of my students would hit that critical point - agh my fingers hurt! - and would want to quit. if they got past that point, where calluses built up on the tips, they were good to go, but sadly many gave up. I'm not even sure I would want to do this full time, say if my band took off or something... probably take the thrill out of it if it were a job.
I wonder, if that were to happen, would I switch to working on Networks as a "hobby" and dread getting up every day to go play guitar? lol then I'd wish... gee, I wish I could make a living fixing computers... and so the cycle would go on... ah I'm content with how it is now anyway, but something to ponder... |

| we have another gig tomorrow - an outdoor concert. and it's supposed to rain... anybody know of any good anti-rain dances? lol
we have yet to find a good paying gig in Christian venues, we are starting to look into playing at secular clubs and bars. that's where the people hang out that could use our message the most anyway, so it's all good. |

| Yeah my thoughts are similar. You just need to be careful of what songs you choose so they don't label you before they see you, if you catch my drift?

| I work part time at a guitar store, part time teaching lessons, and part time running sound at a local club. It doesn't pay the bills, but it's good for some extra money here and there |
