SPAM/advertising...

I've had a moron go through my journal and leave random poems and such with a link to his lipitor (hah) website. I'm talking about somewhere from 30 to 40 comments, all of which I've had to manually delete one at a time. It's getting annoying.

I was browsing for MovableType themes to use, and I noticed that this page. Thoughts on that? It's not a huge deal, really, but if my journal is going to get MORE popular, and not die (which it hopefully won't do), the SPAM messages are only going to increase. And that's not good.

BTW, I was receiving "spam messages" in first and second ways mentioned.

Also, is there an estimated date for when MT 3.0 is coming out for the general public (and not the developer's edition)? I figure they'll be about as right as Jelsoft was about vB3, but I'm curious.

Can't you just go into the Configuration and do an IP Ban?

I tried that two or three times. It kept on changing.

I haven't had many more "spam attacks" of sorts, but I've continuously had random comments advertising various things.

yep, two comments here, one of which is rather innapropriate. I will be deleting it as soon as I figure out how to.

Akshay may want to consider doing some housekeeping on his CGR blog. take a look at the recent comments list in the sidebar. http://blogs.christianguitar.org/akshay/

spams like this are pretty common on any blog. other than manually deleting the spams, there's not a whole lot you can do to combat 'em...banning IPs sometimes works, but there are so many spammers out there that it's unlikely to cut down on the spams a whole lot. however, I think I've heard that MT has a commenter registration feature where commenters are required to manually register with your site before they can post comments. *that* would eliminate almost all spams, if whoever is in charge of the CGR blogs could figure out how to implement it.

I really hope we can get some kind of spam protection in. I just checked on mine and found two porn ads. Thankfully I caught them before they were in there for very long.

DIE SPAM DIE!

In the past four days or so, I've gotten roughly ten SPAM comments (blackjack websites, poker websites...errr.."performance enhancing" drugs...). It's getting rather annoying. Mickey?

I've gotten about six opportunities to buy free Viagra in the last couple days.
