Spammers are the worst scum out there. Especially the ones I have been getting at my blog...much worse than the ones mentioned here. Grrrrrr.

I got hit really bad with spam last night (in around 4 hours!) and spent nearly 45 minutes this morning deleting comments and banning around 20 IPs (which is the same number of IPs that I've banned in my journal's total lifetime!). It'd be great if we could have Mt-Blacklist... cause it's supposed to be a lot more effective than simply banning IPs (since a lot of spammers probably just use proxies anyway).

I got about 40 SPAM comments in the last two days, including one for "twinks," which is to my understanding a term related to child pornography. I had to IP ban and delete each one seperately, it was pretty bad.

I officially have 40 unique banned IP addresses... considering most of those left 2-4 comments, that's about 120 offensive comments I've deleted As the link that Jon left above said, banning really doesn't do much... Jon: Who's in charge of the server for the blogs? (i.e. who could install additional software such as MT-Blacklist) Is he aware of what's going on with the spamming? Is anything being done (yet)? I'm not trying to be demanding, I just doubt that Mickey or whoever is paying for the server wants 3/4ths (probably much more!) of the comments in the blogs to be spam that is wasting valuable space... okay, done ranting

I gave up on IP banning long ago.

As far as I know, Mickey is in charge of the MT blogs. No one else in the administration has touched them. However, Mickey (not to be rude...) hasn't done anything that I have noticed about the MT blogs in a very long time, either. There was a request for an MT blog to be created a few months ago, and it hasn't been fulfilled yet.

I think I'm switching to blogger.

I've just installed MT-blacklist; you shouldn't get much (if any) more spam. I'm also going back and mass-deleting anything that it identifies as spam.
