The Early Bright

As of now, this is a band consisting of me on acoustic guitar and vocals, and my friend on piano and hand-drums.

We're preparing right now to go into the studio this summer with Rick Sutton and record 5 or 6 songs for a demo cd. Once we record, I'll put some music up on the internet and put a link here.

As for our sound, if I had to label it, we sort of sound like (dare I say it) Dashboard, simply because of the acoustic guitar/piano duo. If I had my way we'd have a real drummer and another guitarist and I could start writing songs for my electric as well. But this is where I'm at right now. I also have a bad habit of throwing falsetto into a lot of my songs... I'll probably be sending the cd to both christian and secular labels.

So that's it. I'll keep this thread updated if anything exciting/dramatic/important happens.

Josh.

Please do. I look forward to what the future brings for you and your band. God bless.

Is there anything I can hear of the Josh Barton Band online? I mean like right now, and not later.

Go to Songwriting and Josh's Songs... there's a few crappy recordings... don't listen to the old ones... listen to Only Dream and Time Won't Wait. Those two are going on the cd. But those recordings only have me, and not Preston.

Nice songs, they do sound a bit like Dashboard Confessional, but that's ok. I can't wait to hear them realized with more instruments and a better recording, good luck.

Thanks. Preston and I have 4 songs down, and then I have 2 more to show him... one of which is instrumental only, so that should be fun. Then, we are set to record.

Man, I think I'm going to really like your band. I love acoustic. haha. I listened to some of the clips and they aren't bad at all. I'm also looking forward to hearing your demo!

Update. Joy.

We're hitting the studio Thursday, August 12th. We've got six hours slated so far... I'm hoping that's enough, but I'll get in touch with Rick to find out if we need more for mixing/etc. I'm excited. We've got six songs to do within those six hours. With Guitar/Piano/Congas as the only instruments, I think we will do fine. The songs (as of now!) are as follows:

1. Sad Song
2. Only Dream
3. For All The Things I Lack
4. Arguments and Answers
5. Time Won't Wait
6. Lullaby

Yup. I really hope this turns out well, seeing as this cd will be the demo cd I send to labels and friends I know in the music business. Anyhow, if you feel so led, please pray that I don't get sick or have anything bad happen right before the recording. Thanks.

Josh.

So that's it. Laying on my desk is the single burned copy (note: only true recording) of The Early Bright: All That We Can Offer. I'm pretty pleased with the results. I think we did well for only six hours. I'm a bit frustrated that I couldn't hit *any* of my highs. Almost all of those sound weak. Other than that, I'm really pleased. I'm gonna try to get this thing copy-written as soon as possible. In the meantime, does anyone know of some mp3 editing program. Nothing special, just something where it's possible to clip/fade an mp3... so I can put a sample up.

I understand your frustration with not being able to hit high notes in the studio. It's much easier in a live setting. Studios suck the life out your adrenal glands.
