Bob Jonesers--unite!

Anyone else use Bob Jones' stuff for homeschooling? I do, and it STINKS!!! I told my mom I want ABeka, because they've got good stuff, but she doesn't like them or something. I don't like Abeka math, though, so I'm wondering what kind might be good. Right now, I'm doing BJ Geometry, which is really tough. By far my worst subject is Latin, which is tremendously difficult and hard. Can anyone commiserate with me? Please? Please? We could have a misery party! I'll bring some chips...

Euh, I used one bob jones book before we knew what it was...he has a tremendous anger and hatred toward Catholics...as someone who is Catholic and pretty well read on catholic theology, most of what he says is false. A bekka is a little better, though their history material is still horrible. My sister did BJ French, and basically it was a "let's witness to these horrible french catholics" book...all the vocab seemed to pertain to evangelizing rather than to actual things that you might need were you to actually go to Paris.

My advice to your family would be to try and find a relatively unbiased text selection--there ARE some out there (though they're hard to find), especially in subjects like History and such.

I used Saxon Math, and it worked good for me until I hit upper level math (Algebra 2 to Advanced Mathematics). Then I started to have major comprehension problems, but despite that, I am getting an A out of AP Calculus this year

i'm doing bju next year. i have a bunch of friends that do it too, and it's weird cuz we sometimes (chill, not very often) diss our teachers just like public school kids. yeah, i don't like it when they do homeschool stuff way advanced like we've got something to prove.

Ah yes... Used Abeka for one year... Been on Bob Jones since... First grade? maybe K-5. Now I'm going to be a senior this year, I wanted to go BJU for years... then I saw the light and realized that the rules, style of music, and all that stuff wouldn't be for me.

But, since I've been going to the community college though, I haven't had time for much else besides the Bible curriculum.

And I personally think that Bob Jones' material is pretty good. Rather strict, and uptight (they've mentioned the evils of rock music many times in this years Bible studies), but good stuff.
