Wow, that's a small budget - what are you going to be using it for? Is this for your first amp? to use with a band, P & W team, or ?

It will be my first amp. I have found some descent prices, on some what sound good amps. But I haven't played on them to say how good the company is. I will be playing with a P&W team.

Check out the Peavey Bandit 112's... specifically the ones with the Transtube technology (there are some floating around without the Transtube that I don't personally trust). It's all the amp you'll need for years to come (maybe too much) and they really have a great clean channel. I think you can get them on eBay for around $200 or so.

This is the good one:

This is the not-good one:

(note: these are pics that I unashamedly stole from people on eBay)

So that's what I recommend, but there are lots of really good amps out there that you can pick up in your price range if you go the Used route. Buying new is gonna get you a lot less bang for your buck.

Other amps to check out are:
Most anything that's solid state from:
Marshall (look for Valvestate)
Fender
Crate (GFX, GLX and GX series are all pretty decent)
Carvin
Peavey (stay away from the older solid state amps)

Oh, one more thing... since you'll be doing P&W, you'll definately want something more than a 15w practice amp... don't even bother with anything less than 30w... and even that's pushing it for solid state amps.

May I be snobby?

I know you might like all that solid state stuff but a tube amp would be much better and u can get one 2nd hand for about only 1000$ more. .

I've got a rage 112 and its good for a room and have some nice volume too on the lead channel. But of course I can tell u its not for outside you're room.

For your first amp, and on your budget I wouldn't recommend a tube amp. Yet. For your second amp, oh yes I would.

On another forum, a couple guys (one of them in my age bracket!) rave about the Behringer Vintager ( I think that's the name), it has a 10" speaker, don't know the output wattage, but they say it sounds good, is versatile, and is about perfect for most P & W applications. I think its only like $120 or so brand new. Worth trying out.

Or, try the Vox Pathfinder 15R (Reverb). My friend has one. It only has an 8" speaker, but it is nice. Plus, for $120, it is a very good deal.

I agree with maj. Tom. Behringer does give you quality and power for a $100-$200 price. I would also check out the V-Tone series.
