History Rules and Resources including Church History post for CGR historical interest

Ground Rules for the Church History Forum
These rules are a subordinate standard to Holy Scripture and Holy CGR Tradition.

1. The general rules of the forum are to follow the Theology Forum's rules. If there is not an area covered in this forum's rules, refer to the Theology Forum's Rules

2. Because issues of Church History are often closely related to ongoing theological differences, it is very easy for folks to spill into contemporary debates that do not have much of a place in this forum. If your arguments spill over into modern theological debate, please take them to the Theology Forum. Debates that in the minds of the Moderators, Super Admins, and Administrators do so will be split and moved.

3. Sectarian debates not framed within the confines of Historical Theology will be moved or closed. Please do not turn every Reformation debate into a fight between modern Roman Catholicism and Protestantism.

4. Please respect your fellow posters and show them the grace that the Lord Jesus requires of his disciples. If you are not a professing Christian, we simply ask you to respect the nature of these boards and follow this code of conduct as well.

5. Lastly, this forum exists mostly to foster interest and research into the history of Christ's Church throughout the ages. This forum will be closed if it does not succeed in those goals. Remember, even the high and might Theology Forum has been closed before because of utter breakdown in its goals. Please keep these aims in mind when opening new threads or adding your responses to others.

Cheers.

These rules were approved by Luke on May 12, 2004.

Resources for Church History

http://www.ccel.org
The Christian Classics Ethereal Library
This site is a wonderful clearinghouse of documents from the very foundation of Christ's Church and is very useful when looking for that "particular" quote by a Church Father or a random Council's ruling.

http://www.newadvent.org
New Advent
This site contains both the Catholic Encyclopedia (very useful to Catholics and Protestans alike), as well St. Thomas' Summa Theologicae, in addition to many (though by no means a complete) anthology of the writings of the Church Fathers.

http://www.gty.org/~phil/hall.htm
The Hall of Church History
A distintively Protestant view of Church History with links and resources. Difficult to navigate.

http://www.gospelcom.net/chi/
Church History Institute
Another generally Protestant Church History site.

More resources forthcoming...

History Forum Resources.

Ok, I decided to copy some of the pages I have bookmarked that I find particurlarly useful. Feel free to add your own. I hope to have this stickied at some future time.

Perseus Classics Collection

489 works of classical (Rome/Greece) litertature, philosophy, and history in Latin, Greek, and English.

Forum Romanum Corpus Scriptorum Latinorum

Massive site for Latin literature of all periods with many English translations, some onsite most offsite links.

Lacus Curtius

Photos of many Roman buildings and monuments, about 30 Roman texts (many not found on other sites), secondary sources (Smith's Dictionary of Greek and Roman Antiquities is rather useful), and other resources.

Ancient, Medieval, and Modern History Sourcebooks.

Good selection of meaningful snippets and full texts from Ancient (3000 BC-300AD), Medieval(100AD-1600AD), and Modern(1400AD-Present) times. A large amount of dead links can make these sites slightly frustrating.

The Online Library of Liberty

Seemingly random selection of texts from all periods.

Internet Classics Archive

A selection of Roman and Greek authors, but this site is evil so please don't use it. The majority are incomplete texts, and most can be found elsewhere (except maybe Hippocrates' On Hemorrhoids).

Project Gutenburg

The largest selection of texts to be found online. Although the majority are fiction or of little historical interest, this site still must be listed. If you can't find a text anywhere else, try PG.

The New Advent Catholic Encyclopedia

Not Catholic? Neither am I, but this site is a useful resource for all things Catholic.

Early Church Fathers

As it sounds, the writings of the early church fathers. Not a complete listing, but of good size.

Yale School of Law Avalon Project

As stated on the site this is a collection of documents in law, history, and diplomacy. It includes many documents and many that are not to be found on other sites. The focus is on the 18th Century thourgh the present.

American Rhetoric: Top 100 Speechs (of the last 100 years)

Transcripts and audio files of what the site considers the top 100 American speechs of the last 100 years.

University of Oklahoma College of Law Documents of American History

A selection of documents of American history including many speechs of the Presidents, this site is for when you don't want to browse through the massive Avalon Project page.

And that would all I have, for now.
