| The daily office I'm hoping this goes here...
Does anyone practice the daily office of prayer--is that strictly for the clergy or can lay people do it, too? If you practice it, how do you go about doing it?

| The Daily Office in the Episcopal Church contains orders for corporate worship at Morning, Noonday, Evening, and Compline, as well as a daily devotional for individuals and families for use at those times. In addition, a book separate from the Book of Common Prayer called "The Daily Office" offers perscribed readings for each day in a three year cycle, during which something like 80% of the Scriptures are read. I have often gone through cycles where I use the Devotionals for Individuals at morning and evening, but I get out of the routine and slack off for months or a year at a time. It's a wonderful discipline, but one I don't have yet.
As for who does it, it is a routine available to all, and highly helpful in the sanctification of one's day. However, since most people do not have a group who will meet for Morning Prayer, Noonday Prayer, Evening Prayer, or Compline, especially not daily, most individuals will find themselves using the Daily Devotionals. Anyone can lead the services, though, so if you find them helpful, you should consider getting a group of friends to meet every morning or thrice a week for Morning Prayer or something. It's wonderful.

| Oh, that's nice. I organized a group of about ten people to meet under the bell tower at my school before class everymorning. After three years of it I suddenly realised that my friends were mostly a year older than me. So this year it is no longer running since I'd be the only one from the group still there. |

Ben | The Puritans said "It's a sin to laugh" - it's akin to the worship of a golden calf.

Job 22:19 The righteous see [it], and are glad: and the innocent laugh them to scorn. Psa 37:13 The Lord shall laugh at him: for he seeth that his day is coming.
(guess they would have punished the Lord...) Ecc 3:4 A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
Those Puritans....hehehe....
