| I have a biography on John Wesley. But I am yet to read it. So far as I know, John pretty much started the Methodist Church and stuff. I don't remember alot from my confirmation class but maybe I will later. |

| That's cool. Do you know about how he started the methodist church. He is quite an interesting guy. You should read your biography on him.

| John and Charles Wesley, along with their friend Geroge Whitefield, started what was called "The Holiness Club." They met on a weekly basis, shared with each other their triumphs, struggles, and encouraged one another as well. They also took part in communion together, and invited others to join them.
John was trained as an Anglican minister, yet he saw many problems with the church. Poverty during his day was a big problem, yet the church did nothing to help the poor and reach out to them, and he could not reconcile the position of the church with what he was seeing in scripture.
So, he re - evaluated his theology, took the things that were good from the reform tradition, took the things that were good from the Catholic and Orthodox tradition, and blended them into something that aligned itself with scripture fairly well. He then took that theology outside the church, much to the ridicule of most the church leaders and lay leaders of his day. However that sparked a huge revival in England that eventually wound up in the 13 colonies.

| The Methodist prayer book, AFAIK, is very, very similar to the Episcopal Book of Common Prayer.
Is that right?

| The Wesleys are probably the most important hymn writers in the history of the English language. Look through the references at the back of any Protestant hymnal and you'll find their names all over.

| Another cool thing about John Wesley is that he was a circuit preacher and a 'street preacher' of sorts.
Interesting tidbit for the day: I have been to the church that John Wesley pastored in England. He is burried in the back yard.
