Sometimes you change it up, but the powerpoint thing has made us be alot more organized.
does that make sense? its a tangent, but oh well.
Lately i've been thinking about what i say between/during songs, making sure its edifying to more than myself(if its something i need to say personally, i can back off the mic and say it) and glorifying to God(obviously)
keep the thoughts coming, i appreciate it. |

| Furler of the Newsboys will throw in 20 minute mini-sermons during their concerts. I've noticed a lot of other bands (Audio A, Sonicflood) will tell how the upcoming songs relates to their lives. In this way, it's not distracting. It's totally the opposite.
Now, if you try to be like Newsong and talk incessantly for an hour, then yes, that is bad. Basically, less is more.

| Well, whenever I've heard worship leaders start spouting the classic Christianese religious phrases, it's bothered me in the fact that they don't even make sense. I don't know why they feel the need to state "Jesus... oh, your love is and was and always will be the way, the life... the truth that sets us free to glory and victory in the cross". Stuff like that. It's vague and detatched often times.. and I don't exactly like that. Make it something heartfelt (or at least coherent), instead of just in this case what seems to be filler.

| It's gotta be a church-to-church thing. At my church nobody (but cranky old me) cares if what is said doesn't make sense - as long as it's said with a lot of feeling. People pretty much show up there to ride the emotional train to glory. When I used to lead worship on Sunday mornings I was foolish enough to try to teach doctrine between songs - people hated it!
I've also been leading when off-the-cuff things happened - like spontaneous additions to songs - and people were overcome by the presence of God to the point of tears, shouting, or falling to their knees/faces. One of those services ruined me because I was so aware that what happened had nothing to do with my planning, talent, charm, stage presence, holiness or lack thereof. The pastor saved a recording of that and I gave mine to my mom.
All that careful scripting would wear me out - do you guys think the congregation is paying that much attention? I would think most people are in church to meet emotional needs.
In the black churches they shout out the words to the next line ala Fred Hammond so the congregation doesn't have to stop dancing to find the words. Nothing wrong with that in my opinion - I've used the technique myself.
But I also laugh when Charlie Hall says, "Sing for a country....Africa! Asia!..."

| This is probably WAY off base, but I will post it anyway.
How about we get worship leaders who are intimately close to God and if the Holy Spirit leads them to pray or speak (or even shout) then let them follow the leading of the Spirit.
The problem arises when worship leaders try to perform or impress instead of lead worship.

If it is said for the whole group, it would make sense to me if it was said in a concise way, in words that make sense. |

NOW in their defense, they are in front of a few 1000 people and there is a whole different dynamic than the one we experience on Sunday morning with 300 at each service.
I have been recently questioning ALL music that we put into our set and revamping a lot of it. I try to keep a 40 song rotation anyway....but that is for another thread. Be STILL and Know
