Canadian-born Christian music singer-songwriter Jill Paquette was recently the recipient of the JUNO Award for Best New Gospel/Christian Album of the Year. Presented by the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS), the prestigious award was given to her self-titled debut album at the 33rd Annual Canada’s Music Awards held in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on April 4.
“It’s very humbling to be recognized for something that is so personal to me,” noted Paquette. “This album is a reflection of several phases of my life and it’s a privilege to be honored for something so close to my heart.”
In addition, Paquette is leading the roster for this year’s recipients of the VIBE Awards on May 15th where out of 80 artists, she has a total of five nominations, including Artist of the Year, Female Soloist of the Year, New Artist of the Year, Contemporary/Pop Album of the Year and Song of the Year for the opening track Come To Me. Furthermore, Paquette is vying for a Dove Award later this month in Nashville for the Inspirational Recorded Song of the Year “Free (Take My Life)” and her album is also up for Recorded Music Packaging of the Year.
Paquette was recently named one of the “Best New Artists of 2003” by Christian Music Today out of more than 50 new acts introduced into the Christian music scene in 2003. Paquette not only made the list but was the only female artist to be so honored. In addition, her album claimed the No. 6 spot on Christian Music Today’s Top Albums of 2003. Paquette’s album was listed alongside projects by artists including Jars of Clay, Switchfoot and Stacie Orrico.
