I've attended a couple of services where after the "organized" part of singing a song took place, music continued, and the congregation sang "unorganized" for lack of a better term. Some sang phrases from the song, others sang general words of praise, or prayers. That may seem to be a chaotic description, but the end result was kind of, well, beautiful. Although personally, I'm not sure I would enjoy the experience every week.

I guess it's similar to some Assemby of God churches I've attended where a person stands on the platform to lead in prayer, yet everyone in the congregation prays aloud as well. I've never figured out how they all end at the same time, but maybe that's learned.

My father-in-law is a pastor in a church (Bible Methodist) where they do that. I grew up in the United Methodist Church, and they are more.....well....reserved. The first time I experienced that was quite disconcerting. Not wrong, necessarily, just not what I was accustomed to. In the UMC, it was radical if the pastor did a spontaneous, off-the-cuff prayer after The Lord's Prayer.

Hey, i didn't mean to cut down on anyone either. This stretches my boundries a bit and all of my experieince with charismatic stuff (speaking in tongues, prophesying, spontanteous 'worship' etc...) have all been crap. I'm not judging the originator of this post or anyone in particular, but in my experience it all just seemed really fake to me.

I don't agree with the music led worship/prayer/alter call/whatever because it's manipulation. If you play the right music for long enough you can get people to react however you want. The last service I went to like this had an alter call/worship thing/whatever for like 45 minutes!! It was crazy. They just kept playing the same chords over and over again, and it was really depressing. It made me feel like crap. Didn't bring me closer to God, just brought me down. Then they picked it up and the attitude changed. This isn't biblical. We need to make decisions for God that we keep on our own time (or better yet, on God's time ) not just because the speaker says we should and the music is right. Sorry, this is just a HUGE personal pet peave of mine and it's sweeping the church...

I got caught really off guard with the first post. Where s/he said that "we sing and THEN we worship". I dunno if that's how it was meant, but as it's already been stated many times there was a DEF. problem with that. As stated before, I didn't mean to offend anyone but some of this stuff is just kinda out there...

I'm sorry if i worded the first post wrong. What I meant to say was that we worship during the song and then we kind of have worship with just some music. Hope u guys get it now!
God Bless!

P.S. NO offence taken personally on this thing- i think i kind of misread some of the posts as well. SO if i peeved anyone or offended anyone...........I apologise
