is there a way to actually keep my pickups and just paint them? i dont wanna change em my Ibanez Rg7620 is like the perfect guitar for me , so i was wondering if theres a way to just paint them?

and the fretboard inslays too, how would that be?

Short answer is "yes" but that could look rather messy, and the paint might wear off.

You could definitely do what you ask, but to do it good and proper, it would cost you several 100's of dollars.

What exactly did you want it to look like, and how important is that to you?

You may need a finish to stop the paint chipping or wearing.

Yup. Just paint the plastic covers of the pickups, and you're OK.

Not exactly a DIY thing. Inlays are fairly difficult, and take some time and special tools if done properly.

Well, essentially, yeah.

Just masking tape most of the metal parts and the holes. If a little drop gets into it, it shouldn't interfere with the electronic operation if it's dry. Paint won't mess much up, because it's not electrically conductive.

Just be careful, tho. You don't exactly want to totally soak it.

actually pickup covers come off. if you paint them figure out how to take them off. some places actually sell replacement pickup covers, but all i've ever seen is black, white, gold, and chrome that i can remember. certainly never seen green...
i would give you more info on how to take the covers off, but that's one thing i've never messed with. i just know it can and has been done.
if you want to find out how and no one here knows, then maybe try posting over at:
http://www.projectguitar.com
or
even the electric guitar forum at www.harmony-central.com

Spray Paint or Air-brush

I highly recommend NOT using a paintbrush for painting plastic surfaces. You'll never get the paint to be even or streak-less. Spray paint/Air-brush will leave an even finish.

They key to a good paint job is pure patience. Take the pickups out of the guitar if it's at all possible and give them 2x the time to dry than is recommended on the can. I know it's super tempting to touch the finish to see if it's dry or not, but unless you want a fingerprint on your pickup, don't do it! Also, if your pickups are like the ones that I remember most Ibanez guitars have, I would also recommend a light even sanding to rough up the super-gloss finish (keywords: light and even). This will give the paint something to stick to. Don't use paper that's less than 220 grit... 320 would be ideal.

Oh, and like rainer123 said, we love answering noob questions.

Good luck!

If you have smooth slick plastic you will need to sand it a little. Use very fine sand paper 800 or 1000 grit. wipe it with mineral spirits. even the oil on your hand will affect it. Go to an auto parts store and get a good brand of touch up spray paint. With the cover removed spray a very light coat let dry for 15 min. then try to make the second coat the final coat. The paint will be thin and auto paint is very hard.

Good point

Yeah, I forgot to mention that the spray paint you'll find at Walmart is not gonna hold up like a good can of the high-quality stuff. It's worth spending twice as much to have a paint job that will last 10x longer.

Also, rkbo's suggestion with the mineral spirits is right on. I wouldn't recommend using anything but that, either, since anything stronger will more than likely eat the plastic into a pile of sticky gunk.
