Tips for getting traffic to your blog

If you've created a blog on here, I imagine that you'd like to get some people to check it out from time to time. Below are some ways to start generating traffic. Always remember that the best way to have a good amount of traffic is to get people to come back after they've visited once. Post often, and post interesting/cool stuff, and people will come back. Here are some ways to get more first-time visitors to your blog:

- Put it in your signature. Virtually every message board out there (including this one) lets you put links in your signature. Even something as simple as "My Blog" will be enough to get some people to check it out, especially if you make good posts on that forum. Do not spam message boards with posts about "come to my blog!", as that is against the rules at most boards, and it's just stupid to do. Post normal, resonable posts (like you always do), and keep a link to your blog in your sig. It'll work.
- Tell your friends about it. They'll be the ones most interested in what's going on in your life, so make sure they know about your blog.
- Post comments in other blogs. This follows the same idea as the signatures. If you post decent comments in other blogs, people will see your name (and the link to your blog) and they might check it out. As with the signatures, don't post comments that are just spam to get people to visit your blog. Post good comments about the topic at hand, and people will visit your site if they're so inclined.
- Spend some time going through this list and adding your blog to these various sites. Please only submit your blog to those sites that allow blogs of your type. If they only want "news" blogs, don't submit your personal blog on there, as that just mucks things up for everyone.

There you go. Those four tips will get you a little bit of traffic, and quality posts will help keep it. If you have any other ideas to share, please post them in this thread.
