On March 23, INO Records’ artist, Sara Groves will release The Other Side of Something, and has partnered with CRW, INO Records, and
www.ProgramDirector.net to host “The One Thing I Know” Free Concert Contest. This fun and in-depth contest was a perfect avenue for Sara to show her support and appreciation for Christian radio and its ability to touch listeners’ lives.
“In many cities, Christian radio is giving a voice to the body of Christ in that area, and because music is non-denominational, it sets the stage for a healthy conversation among believers in that community,” Sara says. “Troy and I have noticed that in communities that don't have Christian radio, sometimes there is a lack of conversation among the churches in that area. There can be four churches on four corners, but there is no sense of community among them.”
The contest, which ran during the month of February, consisted of a “virtual scavenger hunt” for radio programmers, incorporating the Internet, email, and phone to find clues and directions leading to the grand prize. The winning station, WBSN New Orleans, was chosen from a random drawing of radio programmers who completed the interactive steps in the virtual scavenger hunt.
“Christian radio has been a significant partner with us since the beginning of my musical journey—I’m excited to finally get a chance to take my show to New Orleans and visit with WBSN/Lifesongs - plus, you just have to love a name like Libby,” Sara says.
With this concert being free of artist honorarium, travel, and lodging expenses, the station is able to sell tickets or take donations using the proceeds for their station.
"This contest is just like an episode of Oprah! We've wanted to do an event like this for some time now, and winning this contest has made our dream a reality,” Libby Krimsier Music Director said. “ We are THRILLED about the opportunity to welcome Sara Groves, and pretty happy about the validation of our scavenger skills, too."
As one of the main radio programmers’ resources, CRW was an excellent choice to help promote this event.
"It was a pleasure for CRW to partner with INO and PD.net on the Sara Groves promotion,” said Managing Editor Jim Veldhuis. “A great prize for the station, and a very cool way for stations to get involved."
To promote her project, Sara Groves will be touring the country this spring. She can be seen on select dates with the Adoration Tour featuring the Newsboys, Rebecca St. James, and Jeremy Camp. She is also featured on iWorship Dates with Don Monen, Lenny Leblanc, and Paul Baloche. Sara will then head out on the road with PFR’s Joel Hanson for a major-city tour.
