Swimming In 28 Degree Water

While on vacation we were able to go swimming, around 170 degrees, then jump in a 28 degree lake. Boy was it fun! Never have been swimming so fast. We jumped off a rope swing a few feet from shore. Anyone else do this type of thing? The people that we were staying with said they do it a lot!

I too have done this, but not quite to those extremes.

Yeah...my mom thought it'd be hard on your heart. Didn't notice anything though. I run often...so I guess I wouldn't just have a heart attack or anything.

It should not be that hard on your heart. If you are a candidate for heart attack, yeah, it could certainly be the catalyst.

If there is motion in the water it won't freeze at 32 degrees. I went white water rafting in 25 or so degree water while in Alaska. That was insane, we were wearing hypothermia suits, and if it splashed on your face, you couldn't feel anything for hours... But it was fun because there were about 10 class III and IV rapids.

That's the extent of my cold water experience.
