Let me get this straight..... you want to write a "fictional" story based on the story of Abraham????? Adding stuff to the story found in Genesis for dramatic and clarification purposes???? Is that about right??? Ok.... here's my advice...... GO FOR IT!
I don't see any problem with doing that. As long as you keep in mind that what you're adding ISN'T "fact" but rather assumptions that clarify and add more substance to the account given in Genesis. Check out what you said here....

You said you'd have to "add facts"......... WRONG!!! If you're gonna look at it that way.... stop right now and don't think about it again. You're not gonna be adding "facts"...... you're gonna be adding ideas and assumptions that (hopefully) can be implied from Scripture. In some cases, you'll even have to add things that aren't hinted at in Scripture. But..... as long as you don't treat these additions as Scripture..... or "advertise" them as such....... I see no problem. Just make sure that whoever would read this story KNOWS that it is a partially fictional work BASED on the Biblical account of Abraham. That's how I would go about it.
Oh, and one more piece of advice...... don't add too much!!! Don't do like Tim LaHaye (is that his name?) did with Left Behind............. c'mon...... 10+ full-size novels coming out of the fairly small 22-chapter book of Revelation...... it just doesn't add up. Anyway... there's my advice, take it or leave it.
