I would say no. Simply because you will bring stereo-types from your future employers on you. My dads boss refuses to hire people with earrings. And I know a lot of people like this. They are unnecessary anyhow.

If it's what you want to do, go for it. The Bible does not condemn piercing.... at least not explicitly. It takes an awful lot to draw "Thou shalt not pierce thy body" from "Your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit".

If future employers give you trouble... take the earrings out. Duh.

I would not, cause I work with inner city kids and I need all the structural integrity my ears currently have to keep them from getting torn off.

Really I am just afraid after growing up I saw a guy get his nipple rings ripped out.

biblically no problem, just realize that you may have to take them out or close some job oportunitys that way.

You don't work with inner city kids do you? (not meant in any way as a slight)I have my ears yanked on all the time by kids, where earings would fast become ear slits.

But seeing those ripped out in a gang fight growing up really soured me on the idea of anything that could be used as such a devastating handle.

No. And my reaction to your post was completely serious... just in case it didn't come off that way.

Meh I say do it if you want to, but be prepared for reactions when job interviews come around. I know I get looks from my eyebrow ring. If need be just take 'em out, that's what I do.

It's like that there's a music, playing in your ear And I'm listening, and I'm listening, and then I disappear And then I feel a change, like a fire deep inside Something bursting me wide open, impossible to hide And suddenly I'm flying, flying like a bird Like Electricity, electricity Sparks inside of me, and I'm free, I'm free

Why do you want to pierce your ears? That is where I would start. Sit down, make a list of reasons why you SHOULD and why you SHOULDN'T do it. Pray about it, and then make a decision. Both of my ears are pierced and I like it. I do realize that there are times and places that earrings aren't appropriate. Just remember that it may be permissable, but not always beneficial. The only reason I'd say not to do it, is if you're doing it out of rebellion or to spark controversy. If your social situation isn't adversely affected by it, then go for it. Always remember to think of others first.

wow, thanks lee. I also agree 100%. Ummm, i'll probably give it another week to pray about it and weigh it out. My only main concern is people at my church and stuff. There's a couple of 'punk' people there w/ pierced stuff but i lead worship and i'm not sure how they'd react....also, i haven't told my parents yet, haha.......It's not out of spite, just something I've been wanting to try that i'm not sure if they'd agree with....anyways, thanks for the thoughts and keep em comin!

My dad always asks me which crowd it puts me in. Of course if your working non-violent slightly rebelious youth it could help you. I never talk to the dude in the tie. Give me the guy in baggy jeans and a couple chains and i feel WAY more at home.

Just a point of view......

Astute observation.

What I did

Hey there. First off, I think it's cool that you're getting advice and waiting to decide, not just going for it. I was in a similar situation and I'll tell you about it and what I did. My junior year in highschool I started contemplating getting my eyebrow pierced. I've always liked piercings and thought it'd be cute. My dillema was that I was VERY involved in my church. I was on the youth worship team and involved in in kids ministry. I decided to pray about it and pray I did, for a year. The reason why I prayed about it so much was because, depending on God's call on my life, it could either hurt or hinder my ministry. After praying about it for so long I decided to go ahead and do it. I had two reasons for doing it. #1: I was incharge of an outreach ministry and saw lots of punk/skateboarding kids with piercings come in. Many of these kids had never stepped foot into a church because they felt the wouldn't be accepted because of their piercings. #2: Somehow it got out in the church that I was thinking about it and several of the adults were not happy. Now, I know that sounds rebellious, but let me explain. I wanted to show them that you could be strong Christian completely devoted to God and still have piercings. They seemed to have this idea in their heads that all kids with piercings were rebellious and not walking with God, I wanted to show them that that was not the case. After I got my eyebrow pierced, several kids at the outreach that had never really talked to me before and who had seemed uncomfortable arround me started comming up to me. I heard lots of people say that I showed them you didn't have to look a certain way to go to church, that God would accept you as you are. Since then, I've gotten my lip pierced and I've yet to have any problems. I am on the Highschool Youth Staff at my church and my piercing have only been a benefit, never a hinderance. As to the job thing, as long as you're willing to take them, you shouldn't have any problems. I never had. Well, I hope that's helped you. Just remember to go with what you feel God would have you do. If you feel called to ministry working with adults, it may not be such a good idea. But if you, like me, feel called to work with you, it could be to your benefit.
