My New Friend Taylor!

Hey guys!! well I have been posting here at these christian guitar message boards for a while now.... but I never have had or even knew how to play a guitar.... until now!! I finally got my first guitar...

A Taylor "Big Baby"! I am excited... now I just have to learn how to play... I will probably have to teach myself mostly... so if you guys could give me some good basic stuff to practice that would be cool.. and also tell me what and how to practice and start learning!!!

yeah, I'm with ywing... how in the world did you get a taylor as your first guitar. hey, I'll trade you my washburn so you can have a um... easier, yeah that's it... easier guitar to start out with.

seriously though, good luck on your learning. I don't really know what to suggest, except to get some help from a friend who's good at guitar and can show you things for free. (key word, 'free')

a couple easy songs are lord of the dance with D and A, and Sanctuary with D, A, and G. You're lucky though....I started two years ago, and I had to teach myself, with my only help being the chord notations (which I figured out how to read myself) and a song that has 5 different chords, which you change often, and one of them being hard for my then small hands.

C'mon...was anybody paying attention to the first post? Sure it's a Taylor...but it's a Big Baby, not one of the $1500 models. The Big Baby's are only around $375 around here. I'm not knocking the Big Baby at all....that is an AWESOME guitar to start with. Matter of fact...I'm thinking of getting rid of my Ovation (which I started on) and getting one myself. Those are some sweet sounding guitars, especially if you're like me and can't afford a regular Taylor model in the near future.

Brent, sometimes I think you're the wisest person on these boards (if only because of your avatar). I might have to look into a baby taylor, I didn't know they made Taylor's of any sort for that price. In mock shawn connery accent, "you're the man now, dog."

hehe, I ALWAYS lose my picks, and they always end up in my guitar, it's really funny. I don't know of any eally easy sogs for starting up. if you know how to read music or tabs or something, you could buy a couple of piano or guitar books(beginners). and have someone help you with memorizing the chords and frets and fingering. I'm not good with teaching or helping people, sorry. but I'll try to answer some questions Good Luck FILL!
