I also use, and have been very pleased with a Peavey Classic 30. We play in a pretty loud environment and it is plenty loud with a nice clean channel and suprisingly good overdrive channel. I got mine used for $245 - a real deal! Our other guitarist has a Fender Hot Rod Deville that I think sounds better, but it's a little pricey for me. For that price it should sound better, but 60 watts may be overkill for a lot of church settings, too.

I would go used. For $400 you can get a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe which is 40 watts. It has 3 channels and as stated before this thing is scary loud. A new Fender HRD would cost around $600 but ebay has these all the time for $400.

The Peavey Classic 30 is a good amp but it is not nearly as versatile (1 channel) as the Fender nor is it as loud although at 30 watts it is no slouch.
Can't disagree on the HRD, it's a great amp. And when you want Fender 'clean' nothing else will do.

However, just want to point out that the Classic 30 is a two channel amp.

Thanks for that correction. I just removed the Classic recommendation. It isn't in the 40-50 watt range anyway.
