I use a clear shield in front of the amp to help combat the beaming effect and volume problems.
Those "100 watt" Lpads are borderline for 50 watt amps. If you use heavy distortion tones, it will overheat. If you don't go beyond mild OD tones it will be OK. I used one in my HR DeVille 4x10 and never had a problem, because I don't use full on distortion per se. You can get creative though, and use 2 Lpads, with your speakers wired into 2 "groups" which should work fine with heavy distortion..

My personal long term solution recommendation - It is best to use an amp and more importantly, a speaker configuration that is closest to where you need to be before using power attenuation. Maybe an amp with a single 12" speaker, and lower wattage, like one of the plethora of 15-20 watt 1x12 combos available. Then if its still a bit too loud, use a power attenuator and/or shield.
