Kids & Clothes

Have any of you run into the problem of your kids wanting designer clothes yet? My sons are 7 and 3, so we haven't had to face it yet. We can still get away with Target and Wal-Mart fashions. But to those with kids a little older, what age did they become aware of fashion? Or have they? I'm just trying to get myself prepared for the inevitable. My boys do have some "name-brand" stuff because it was given to them. I'm not too swift on spending $40 bucks on shoes that my kid's only gonna wear for one year at the most. Any feedback?

I just became "aware" of fashion in the past year. But even before that, I wanted good clothes, and yes, expensive clothes. My parents just told me no, and I got over it. Besides, Wal Mart clothes is quite often more comfortable. I'm wearing an entirely walmart-purchased outfit, and I'm comfy as a dead frog.
But pretty much, I wouldn't think it's a big problem for a kid if he/she/it/ET wants insanely expensive and uncomfortable clothing but doesn't get them. It's a lot like wanting a trampolene but never getting one.
And besides, cheap fashion is more funner. Just some thoughts from the clothing mod.

I never got heavy into fashionable things until high school. I've still got a few years until my kids get there. And if K-Mart had been as cool THEN as it is NOW, I wouldn't have minded too much.

As much as I would have liked more expensive clothes, I knew there was no way my parents could ever afford it. So if I wanted something my parents would buy for me, I'd save up and buy it myself, which might be a good way to let your kids realize that expensive isn't always better. You can also shop at discount stores for name brand stuff. Personally, most of my friends and I shop at Wal-Mart and Goodwill.

I am 16 and I still havn't become aware of fashion (except that I have none). I have always had wal-mart clothes because my mom hammered common sense into me that paying more for clothes is pointless.

Good will may be your friend but so is the word, "no." You never have to buy them anything expensive if you don't want to.

Oh yes. That lovely two letter word.

I never had a problem with this. I occasionally want some nice clothes, but if i can't find them at a reasonable price, I just give up. This is due to the fact that mom hammered frugality into my head at an early age.

Hope your kids become like me: grow so tall that no designer clothes will fit.

How tall are you??

I like to waste gas going to all these upper class yard sales and buying my kids name brand clothes and mixing them with Target brand.

You will never guess that I paid $2.00 for Gap jeans and a buck for Levi's...

6'4. But I have short legs and a huge upper body, so there isn't a single shirt made by anyone but Eddie Bauer is long enough. If I wear like Gap or anything, I become like Britney Spears.

If I have corrupted you, Brother Andrew, then my life goal has been accomplished.

And just to clarify, I don't turn into a busty blonde who can't sing or dance. I just show my belly a lot.
