| Rockin' out to the phat beat of evil! Hey.
Well, I tried to do this before and failed miserably. But now that I actually have some friends on CGR, this journal will work out better.
Anyways, I'm sitting here in my dorm room with my roommate, listening to Project 86 - Truthless Heroes and dreading going to work in 20 minutes. Eventually I'll have to get up out of my chair and get changed into my uniform, but I'm trying to put it off as late as possible. Deny deny deny.
My name is Daniel. My middle name is Estlin. My last name I avoid putting out on the internet for various reasons. However, you could probably figure it out from my first and middle alone. And the fact that I'm at Trinity Wester University in BC, Canada. Kinda narrows it down.
Tonight, after work, I'll be leading a Bible study with my friends. Normally I play guitar and do a little worship for it as well, but it's going to be a little shorter tonight as a couple of us (including myself) have an indoor soccer game to go to as well. So the Bible study will run from around 8 to 8:30, much shorter than I'd like, but I did make a commitment to the soccer team. I am the captain after all.
In other news, I'm still a little gutted about CPF being gone. I can understand the reasons, but I was trying really hard to make it fun and funny with various threads about almost everything. I miss the thread about the straightening of my hair...and Jnake's toe thread was kinda interesting too. And all my conversations with Josh and Jon...all gone. Makes me sad.
Anywho, I better get changed for work...
Cheers,
Skeeter |

| Hey.
Work was okay, I guess. My co-grill-monkey had to leave early, so I ended up closing up the grill by myself, which meant I was a little late to the Bible study that I was supposed to be leading. But everyone else was a lot late, so it ended up being alright.
It had to be a short Bible study, because of my indoor soccer game, but we talked about some interesting things. I asked some questions regarding the "hidden wisdom" of God (1 Corinthians 2) and what it means to be natural and spiritual. They all know I'm Calvinist, and I try not to push it too hard, but I find it so often...
It went well though, and we talked about some practical things as well, rather than theological, such as how to witness to others as Paul first witnessed to the Corinthians and knowing the mind of God through the Holy Spirit. All in all a very successful Bible study.
Incidentally, we won our indoor soccer game. We have a really good team. My roommate is an ESL student and so knows several international students who are amazing. I'm decent, though I'm out of shape as I haven't played soccer in a year. We have an outstanding keeper and our mandatory girls are actually good at soccer. It helps that we had plenty of subs to keep everyone fresh while they had one. Still, two wins in a row. We're doing well.
Tomorrow will be the first time that my "band" gets together. I've been looking to start a rock band here at Trinity since I came, and I only just now found a drummer interested as well as a bass player. Halfway through second semester of my second year.
Anyways, we've got myself, playing guitar and singing, Greg, a jazz bassist who is amazing, and Dan, who I've only heard playing worship drums, which doesn't show off his full ability. we're going to Dan's house to jam tomorrow afternoon.
Which means I should be doing my homework for my evening class now, as I won't have time tomorrow, but I'm too easily distracted by CGR. I'll give it a try though...
Cheers,
Skeeter |

| I work in the cafeteria at Trinity Western University. If you ever came to Trinity and ordered a burger for dinner, it's likely that I would make it for you. |

| You're a vegetarian? But yes, we do serve veggie burgers.
I'm a Communications Major, with a minor in Philosophy. Basically, I'm planning on going into screenwriting as well as some freelance writing on the side. My dream, however, is to make a living with a rock band, playing music that I love.
Trinity is a full-fledged university, though it's privately funded. It's the largest Christian institution in Canada. It's expensive, at least for Canadians, but I love it. Small class sizes, professors that actually care, and an awesome Christian atmosphere. I'm applying for RA next year, mainly because I love living on campus and want to mentor new students. |

| Hey.
Yesterday was awesome.
Slept through my first class...that wasn't great. But it serves me right for signing up for a 9:25 class anyways.
Had my Existentialism discussion group that I co-lead, worked our way through some of Soren Kierkegaard. Started it off with "Sooner or Later (Soren's Song)" to start it off, discussing the idea of being condemned to freedom and the angst and anxiety of loneliness. Fun stuff.
Around 1:30 or so, I met with Dan and Greg, a drummer and bass player respectively. We went to Dan's house and rocked out on a few songs that I've written and a couple Weezer and Switchfoot songs. It was fun. Played a little jazz progression I wrote at the end, had fun with that. We play pretty well together and I have high hopes, but since we're all still in classes we're probably only going to be able to meet once a week. Greg prefers playing Jazz and already has a quartet that he plays in, so he's not as commited as I'd like him to be. Dan is up for anything. So I'm trying to motivate and lead and at least get us playing a couple shows once in a while.
I had a class at 6:00 in the evening, in which I had homework due. I got back to school with around 45 minutes to spare. I hadn't yet started my homework...I didn't get finished. But I went to class and got told that it wasn't going to be due for until next week...I was surprised and happy.
So now I'm sitting here listening to L.A. Symphony, relaxing in my room. Voting for all the Student Council positions is today, and I think I know who I'm voting for. Speeches were yesterday, and they changed a couple of my choices. Some of the people I planned on voting for turned me off with their speeches. One of the guys running for President acted pretty unprofessionally and lost my vote, and the girl I was going to vote for VP of Academics used the word "dude" in her speech...besides, the other guy running has some pretty good ideas. Voting's online, so I'm going to go do that now.
Cheers,

| Hey.
Just finished playing capture the flag against a girl's dorm. Played twice, won once. I didn't play the first time because I was busy watching Starfield play live in our cafeteria. It was a pretty sweet show. They're tight musically, catchy, and very funny and honest in their live show. I might get their CD once I have money again.
We won the second time. That's because I was playing.
Cheers,

| What does Starfield play?
And the idea of Weezer-rock with a jazz edge is great. Jazzcore is a genre I always goofily threw around...but you may forge it.
Switchfoot used to toss in some sweet jazz. |

| Yeah, that's the kind of thing I hope we end up playing. I have to motivate our bass player though. He's great, but he's not very committed.
Starfield plays a soft rock/acoustic style that's kinda nice. Their lead guitar player is pretty good. Plays some stuff reminiscent of The Edge. Uses echo and tremolo to good effect. Their bass player had a gorgeous 5-string. He played very well in the pocket. Drums were good, but not exceptional. Solid drummer but nothing too flashy. Lead singer has a great voice and manages falsetto very well. He does a lot of basic rhythm guitar but also does some nice finger-picking stuff. Enjoyable.
They ended their set with a bunch of worship songs, unplanned and spontaneous, and all the members of the band were good at keeping up with chord changes on the fly. All in all a very talented band. Their posters were gross though. Made them look like a boy band, which they are certainly not. They may have the look to be a boy band, just in their facial features and what not. But their music is nothing like it. |

| Hey.
I'm so freakin' tired. But I have a treatment for my screenplay due tomorrow in Screenwriting class, so I have a half drunk bottle of Coca-Cola sitting in front me and a large bug of candy. I'm almost done I think, so getting to sleep with all this caffeine and sugar running through me's going to be interesting. Fortunately my class isn't until 2:35 tomorrow. Makes it a bit easier.
Went and saw School of Rock at the cheap theatre tonight with some friends. Katy couldn't come, as she's setting things up for the All-Star tomorrow. Essentially, an All-Star is when an entire dorm, in this case Katy's, goes out on a date. Each girl asks out a guy, and they/we go and do something fun. I believe it's dinner and ice skating, though they're trying to keep some things secret.
Anyways, School of Rock is the first decent music movie to come out since This is Spinal Tap, which I have yet to see all the way through. SoR is fun, enjoyable, and actually has something meaningful to say. Definite kid's movie, but it's not dumbed down. Jack Black goes on rants about "stickin' it to the man," writing rock songs, and simply rocking out. I loved it. So many times I felt like jumping up in the theatre and shouting "YES!" while pumping my fist and making the universal symbol of rock with my hand. That is so punk rock!
Got to hang out with Harry, my cool black friend, who no longer attends Trinity. Haven't seen him for a while, so we exchanged Christmas presents before going to see the movie. He got me Adaptation, another amazing movie, but on a completely different level.
We ended up with about 10 people going to the movie. It was cool. A good time was had by all.
Bought three new CDs today, as well as a new pair of shoes. I got:
Outkast - Speakerboxxx/The Love Below
Sloan - One Chord To Another
Radiohead - Hail to the Thief
All good stuff.
And now to finish my homework.
Cheers,
