Newspaper Comics

Someone mentioned in another thread about their devotion to Dilbert, so I thought it'd be worth starting a page on the "funnies." What comics do you enjoy that are in regular syndication in newspapers?

I enjoy "Get Fuzzy," "Wizard of Id," "Pickles," "Pooch Cafe," and "One Big Happy." "Garfield" has taken a turn for the better after years of unfunny gags, and I still love "Dagwood."

I dislike "Luann," "Pearls Before Swine," "Cathy," "Non Sequiter" (which used to be brilliant) among others. I think "B.C." needs to end, and I personally have a vendetta against "Born Loser."

But I'd be interested to see how the rest of you agree or disagree with my tastes.

I will say "Mutts" used to be awe-inspiring, but in recent years has been trite.

Get Fuzzy is my absolute favorite (besides good ol' Calvin and Hobbes who I miss dearly). I also enjoy Zits... and I liked Robotman before he left. Now it's... it's ok.

Oh! I had forgotten Zits. That comic is cute with being schmaltzy.

Zits has rescued newspaper funnies as we know them.

Dilbert is still consistently funny.

The Far Side and Calvin and Hobbes are classics that demonstrate what can be done with the medium.

Zits is awesome. We have some comics up on our fridge. Calvin and Hobbes was the greatest. It took me awhile, but I have every single book .
I really like Foxtrot and B.C. My dad is kinda like the dad in Foxtrot. Garfield, well that's just a classic. I have a bunch of those books, too. The Far Side was really funny, but no longer being made, which stinks.
Frazz is funny. It's kinda like a grown up, intellectual Calvin.

Like everyone else, my all time favorite has to be Calvin and Hobbes. I don't read them much in the newspaper, but I have one of the books, and it's greatness. The Far Side is good, except the simpsons reference (Homer: (while reading far side calendar) I don't get it, I don't get it) is really true.

The Daily Texan comics are horrible.

Everyone should read Maddux' take on Garfield. I enjoy Garfield, but he makes a good point.

DILBERTDILBERTDILBERTDILBERT!!!!!!

Scott Adams is one of the great minds of our times. Along with Jack Black.

I also really enjoy Fox Trot from time to time for the sheer geekiness.

I like Mother Goose and Grim, Zits (though, personally, I think it's been kind of dumb lately, I'll still vote for it!), the Far Side, and For Better or For Worse. Oh! and Bizarro! Bizarro is the best!! I absolutely love it!

I knew what slant of light
would make you turn over.
It was then I felt
the highways slide out of my hands.
I remembered the old men
in the west side cafe,
dealing dominoes like magical charms.
It was then I knew,
like a woman looking backward,
I could not leave you,
or find anyone I loved more.

Look at that! Just look! With such displays of greatness, all of you who failed to mention Dilbert should be ashamed. Ashamed!

Peanuts you heathens! Peanuts is just plain awesome!

And of course Dilbert, but that goes without saying.

Peanuts was a masterpiece. Sadly, few Christian cartoonists can match its intelligence, tact, and genius.

Here's the list of comics I read daily, in the order that I read them (all online):

Dilbert - Best ever.
For Better or For Worse - Not sure why I read this. :s
Get Fuzzy - Just brilliant
Grand Avenue - Good for an occasional giggle.
Luann - Ehhhhh, I dunno.
Rose is Rose - Again, no idea.
Adam @ Home - Good for a good laugh every now and then.
Baldo - Kinda the poor man's Zits
The Boondocks - Used to be completely and utterly brilliant. Now? Not so much. Still occasionally great.
Foxtrot - Simply amazing. I laugh more because of this comic than any other.
Garfield - Getting better again.
Non Sequiter - Creative, sometimes funny.
Blondie - Always a classic
Rhymes with Orange - Completely underrated. Brilliant in so many ways.
Sally Forth - Again, I don't know why.
Zits - Great stuff.

I've been meaning to start reading Baby Blues and Beatle Bailey again. I dunno.

Yeah, I regret not mentioning Dilbert. It truly is a great strip. On our Theory tests we always get a Dilbert cartoon. Our prof. may not be the best teacher (he's only a grad. student) but he has some incredible taste in things such as music, comics, and movies.
