Just two questions:
What kind of music you planning on playing?
What guitar do you own? |

Chesh | I'm with Chesh and Major Tom. Definately get tubes. A good amp in that price range is the Fender Blues Jr. It's 15watts, only weighs 35lbs so its easy to carry, small enough to practice with, and loud enough to rock out if you need to! It really is a great sounding little amp. I've been using mine for worship and it gives me the tone I crave Crystal clear cleans, just enough distortion to sound good, and great lead tone. I highly recommend it! |

| Try going used. Just know what your getting and try before you buy if at all possible. With used, you can get a better amp for a cheaper price. Go to the amp buying advice thread too, there's some very good stuff said in there. |

| I like tube amps too. The only issue is that you can't lug them around anywhere you go without being very careful. They don't like getting bumped around or dropped (even lightly). You basically have to handle them like you would a box full of light bulbs. And they take some maintainance (tube replacement especially). BUT they sound so much better than the alternative (at least in my opinion) that for me, it's worth it.

| A tube amp and distortion pedal combo should work well. I agree with buying used. |

Have you seen it? It's your monitor, amp, and PA all in one. It's about 4" to 5" across, 6' high, and sits on a 2' base. You put it behind you a few yards, and it casts almost a full 180 o sound "wedge" that fills the stage, and goes all the way back to the very back of the room, with an absolute minimal degradation in sound.
That means that you don't need a console or mixing board. Everyone in your band hears your PAS, so they don't have to worry about hearing you thru the mix. And everyone hears the sound cleanly all the way thru the house. There's no reverb because sound isn't bouncing off the walls from monitors being directed in every direction, nor are you having all these volume wars and each member cranks his amp a little higher to be heard in the mix.
IOW, you don't need to go to 11. Just 3 to 5 guys with 3 to 5 PAS's.
And, if you're the decorative type and want to put all sorts of cool things onstage, well, now you can, because instead of your stage being taken up by this huge sound system, you just have a line of 6' towers (more like poles) in the back.
Now, if you're all about tube like we've mentioned and what not, you can run your set-up thru a tube amp and so on, but ultimately, instead of the monitors, cabinets, mixing console, and PA system, you just have a 6' tall, 4" wide pole.
Very clean, very nice, very sweet.

Honestly, I don't think these are anywhere near ideal for any form of rock band. They look great for smaller acoustic gigs but for any sort of rock concert, they seem inherently flawed. First, the guitars wouldnt be going direct, so you still have all the sound coming from the amp competing with the little bose speakers. Also, I could be wrong but I dont see these being good for large venues. And, at around $2000 a pop, I dont think this is going to be of any use to julianaTheory30.
