When King David moved the ark of the covenant (you know, the thing that Speilberg made the Raiders of the Lost Ark movie about) to a special tent in Jerusalem, he forgot that God wanted it carried an poles, so he had it put on an ox cart. When it started to fall off, the guy who tried to save the day by steadying it, got struck dead instead. This is one of the more blatant examples that we don't give God the victory by serving him. The victory is not necessarily when God is served (by steadying the ark) or when everything goes good (it doesn't fall off). The victory is when God is glorified. When Jesus went to the cross, he explained that he was going to be glorified. In the midst of being abused rather than served and of everything going as bad as possible, he won a marvelous victory. When we seek victory in God, it may come with physical healing and other visible signs of his kingdom coming, but whether we are delivered from struggles or through them, we ought remember that the important victory is that our King be glorified.
So in this case wouldn't God have been glorified if David would have been obedient?
