God's got your back if you obey him! That's the biggest theme I see in these chapters. Even though Laban cheated Jacob about Rachel, Jacob did not sue him like we would these days, and did not try to get back at Laban. Instead, he worked harder for Rachel, and tried to love Leah even though he never had. And God blessed him for it.
It says in the Bible that Laban lowered Jacob's wages TEN TIMES!!! He obviously did not like this guy, though he was his son-in-law. But Jacob just stood up for his beliefs, kept working hard, and serving God.
Eventually, God began to bless him, giving him even more wealth than his father-in-law. And of course, this made Laban angry, and Jacob knew it, so he ran. But notice that he didn't just run, he asked God first, making sure that was His will. It is so important, even though it seems such a small thing. Jacob asked God's advice, though I'm sure sometimes he felt like God had let him down.
A lot of bad happened in Jacob, just as it later would to his son Joseph. But I believe that Jacob's example is a lot of what helped Joseph through his hard times as well. I am sure Jacob said "Son, God will always be there for you if you obey Him. Just trust Him for His will in your life, and things will go well for you." We can take example from this too.
Things aren't always going to be easy, though we'd like them to be. People, even people we love and trust, will betray us and let us down. There's nothing we can do about that! People mess up, and you will too. It's part of life. Now, don't misunderstand me, I'm not condoning it, only letting you know that it will happen. But God will NEVER let you down. Sometimes, it may seem like he did, but he's really there waiting for you to reach out to him. He loves you, and always will.
