| Amy's Devotional: 1/11/04 We all sometimes watch movies or read books where people have such amazing lives. They seem so wonderful, we wouldn't even mind trading problems with them.
But the truth is, they have plenty of problems! The media just usually likes to make them subtle, and unimportant.
Sometimes, our life wants to fall apart on top of us, and we feel we can't do anything but give up. God doesn't want us to feel helpless! At least, he doesn't want us to go without help. We need His help, and we can't do it without him.
We may at times think life would be easier if we were somebody else. But God made you who he wanted you to be. He could not be happier with who you are! He doesn't want you to be someone else.
Imagine if he'd made us all the same. Wouldn't that be boring? Everyone had the same hair, face, eyes, voice, and personality. I don't know about you, but I'd get sick of seeing myself as someone else all the time! I'd want to be unique. I think God has a rocking time up in Heaven deciding how to make the next baby different from the last one. He gets to pick and choose, and that would be awesome!
As Christians, we are not to be completely content with this world. This is not our home! We are, as the Bibles says, "like aliens in a foreign land". We are here to bring others back with us. That is our mission, and we cannot truly be satisfied until we are home.
So don't worry if you're sometimes wishing you could have a different life. That's normal! It's not something you can stop! And that's okay. We just need to not dwell on that, and let it make us miserable. That's where we sin. If you concentrate on your discontentment, and complain and whine, God is not pleased. Be joyful in him, and the fact that someday, you will be home. Until then, enjoy the journey there, and bring people with you!
