learning piano jazz/blues improv and accompaniment

hey people, i'm learning classical piano as of now, taking grade 8 ABRSM in a month or so. I've been taking classical all my life and now that i'm a little older i'm more into jazz, blues, and other music (i like rap, but couldn't really figure out a way to fit that in). I was wondering if there are some scales and chords or stuff that I should learn to improv and accompany jazz or blues style. I've mostly figured stuff out myself by messing around on the piano (when i should have been practicing..heh), but it's hard to learn stuff just by ear, especially when you don't get a chance to hear it that much. so any help on that would be very appreciated

My other question is just for accompaniment in general. I play the guitar (and the violin, but it's a bit hard to sing with it under my chin), but i've written a couple of songs that i'd like to do with the piano. The thing is, i'm not sure exactly how to go about accompanying anythign in general. If there are any websites, tutorials, or just basic ideas/knowledge that you guys were willing to share, that'd be great.

thanks!
