:kshock: for the love of do-nuts, why hasn't anyone mentioned will mcginnis?!?!?!?!?!?!?! he's oh so very musical, rather than foundational/background!!!! i also *love* ned and chris, but theyre guys that play with local churches , so undoubtedly you haven't heard of em. phil, suga bear, traa, keith hoerig, todd greuner(formerly known as rodd w.), john cooper, the dude from supertones, and pretty much any really good christian bassist has influenced me in becoming a bassist.

Jaco Pastorius and Charles Mingus! And JPJ of Led Zeppelin origin
Jaco has a good technical ability....have you ever heard/played Teen Town? That is an awesome song. I like CM, because, well, he is the best jazz upright bassist I ever heard JPJ because of technical ability... (listen to zooma)

Hey MIME, since you like Jaco and Mingus, do yourself a big favor and pickup a copy of Christian McBride's Sci-Fi album if you havn't already. There is nothing like hearing Havona played on upright. There is also a combo version of Steely Dan's epic Aja. He also does a "jazz waltz" version of the Police's Walking on the Moon that has a very "Jaco-ish" vibe to it.

I would have to say my favorite bassist would have to be Keith Hoerig from five iron frenzy. He has influenced me in my bass playing.

OK my turn to talk! I've never been part of a thread epidemic before - how exciting!

OK Favorite bass players: Tony ( Supertones) He's all over it - they just wouldn't be my boys without him.
AND: dude from Cake - that bass player is so talented - their bass is so dominent.

So - there you go!
That was Fun

Favorite bassist?

Who's your favorite bassist? Mine would fave to be Traa Daniels from POD. He's got the best tone for metal of anybody I've heard, and he's got a really good groove. I guess Steve Dail from Project 86 would come in second, he's just awsome. Next I'd say Victor Wooten, although he's in a catagory all by himself. That man is the most amazing musician I've ever heard.
