I need help

Our music minister asked me if I could help him find some "less soulful" praise and worship music. I think they are concerned about a new injection of people that are not of color in a church of color. Can you give me so upbeat good praise and worship songs? I only know what they sing and hymns that are not upbeat. Thank you for your help.

I think you might find a better response in the Worship Leading Forum.

less soulful? I'm having trouble with what that actually means. I mean, shouldn't our music be as "soulful" as possible (as in spirit-filled)? Or is your music minister somehow equating the word "soulful" with "black music"? And if so, what's the problem if a church of color has music influenced by the people within it? Does he want you to find "white music"? If so...why? Gah....I'm all confuzzled, and I'm not helping...but maybe if you were to go into more details, we could give you a hand?

Are you saying that the church has been primarily people "of color," and the music reflected that, but now that's not so true, and someone wants the music to reflect the current state of the church?

Anyway, I'm about as white bread as you get, so here's some modern songs that we do that I like.

How Deep the Father's Love For Us
In Christ Alone
You Are My All in All
Romans Doxology (I don't know how easy this would be to find)
Agnus Dei
Psalm 118 (also not sure how widespread this is)
Forever

I second all of Jay Tea's nominations...he just listed a good slice of my favorite "modern praise & worship"...

I don't know the Romans Doxology though...maybe Jay Tea could point me to it?

Well, here's the author's page, where you can listen to it (or at least some of it).

http://digitalcuts.com/mall/P_JElliott.asp

Apparently you can find it in Maranatha Music's Praise Chorus book, expanded 3rd edition. It's red.

It's written by John G. Elliot. If you have that CCLI thing that lets you see lyrics, it's CCLI no. 398584.

That's all I'm seeing right now...can't post the lyrics, you know...

Thank you guys. I apperciate your suggestions. Will pass them along.
I am like you if the music is spirit filled and it touches the poeple then what does it matter, because there new people of different cultures coming. It is no like there are a whole bunch of us in the church. I can use my fingers to count all of the white people that come on a regular basis. (meaning maybe once a week) There are about 6 that come almost evey service. Thank you again very much. May God bless you and keep you and your families.

No he was refering to what I said.
