Sometimes God blesses us with sunshine, sometimes with rain, and sometimes we don't know what he is doing, but we can still trust him. Mount Moriah was such a place of sometimes bewildering trust for God's people. About four thousand years ago Abraham named its summit Jehovahjireh when God saw to it that Abraham had a ram to sacrifice, just as Abraham was about to sacrifice Isaac (
Genesis 22). About three thousand years ago, the same place had become the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite. On that threshingfloor God's judgment turned to mercy after he had disciplined King David with a plague and then God directed David to make it a place of worship (
1 Chronicles 21). David's son, Solomon, build the first temple on mount Moriah after God blessed him with wisdom to rule his people (
2 Chronicles 1-3). About two thousand years ago, Jesus shocked the religious leaders by driving moneychangers out of the temple that was then on the same site. Four unusual acts all on the same mountain; some all happy, some mixed with sorrow, some baffling; but all the blessing of God. We can trust him to lead us, even in the baffling times.
