| Jaco was one of the best, Abe Laboriel, Adam Nitti, Stanley Clarke, Victor Wooten, (the list goes on) are awesome bass players. If you have never heard of any of these guys, you are missing something.

What do you guys think is the main difference between the styles of Jaco and Victor?
Ben | I'm actually a huge fan of both. As a jazz bassist I really admire Jaco's tone (I play a fender fretless jazz bass). But ontop of being an aspiring jazzer, I have to pay attention to what I call my "God Funk" and on how to get a cool slap style of my very own. I'd also reccomend Stanley Clarke, Charles Mingus, Les Claypool, and Randy Coven.

Neither of those videos worked, is there somewhere else where I can see them?

Thats Stanley Clarkes video page. The one marked "Recent Video" has Abe in it. It has that video and a few others. http://www.adamnitti.com/lessons.shtml is where Adam Nitti's video is located. The server for the video must be down today. Try it tomorrow, it is absolutely awesome!!! His site has lots of stuff and some audio clips.
Both videos are in Real Player format

| I picked up Heavy Weather today. It's pretty dang cool. The synth stuff is a bit odd... I've only heard the word of mouth big band's tribute CD to these tracks before... so it sounds a lot different, but wonderful in its own respect.
Havona is simply amazing...
Jaco's still my favorite.
I don't view Wooten as better than Jaco. He's just a guy who plays bass, and went from where Jaco left off. I mean if Jaco was still alive... I'd imagine he'd still be one of the most innovative guys around. |
