| Nate, Daniel told me something about a clave... He said it was some funky piano-type instrument, and I've been curious as to what it sounds like. He described it as a funky.. thing. Have any sounds that I could hear of this "clave"? I'm intrigued.

It was originally made by Hohner (I believe), and the original model number was D6 (I believe). There have been many other subsequent models, and nearly all modern synthesizers have at least three or four clav samples.
The clavinet itself is very much like an electric harpsichord (if you can imagine such a thing). The sound is also similar to that of a harpsichord.
I believe that you can hear a clav in the song "What Good" by Third Day, off of the album "Time".
As far as other sound samples go, you'll have to wait while I find a few online.
In His love,
Nate

| Here are some samples taken from the Nord Electro 2 synthesizer. Not the best, but it's what I could find quickly. I'll find more soon. http://www.clavia.se/MP3s/MP3%20file...oards/Clav.mp3 http://www.clavia.se/MP3s/MP3%20file...ds/ClavWah.mp3
The clav is the thing that sounds kind of like a cross between a slapped bass guitar and a funk rhythm guitar.

Nate

| Man, this Clavinet really makes me want to pick up piano (something I've thought about anyway). Or at least I want one to play around with and play funk licks on

| Go for it! Just be ready to put plenty of time into it. It's NOT a pick up and play thing like the guitar.

Knowing music already, though, is an incredible advantage. If anything, I'd just like to get my fingers used to the piano, and be able to effortlessly play (easy) stuff, and do improvisation. 'Course, that's probably a lot harder than it sounds..

| yeah it is
But you will have a much easier time then I did since you are 15 rather then 5 like I was. Combine that with already knowing at least something of music already from guitar, and you shouldn't have TOO hard of a time learning.

| Hmm... I was pretty sure it was called a clavichord?
They're supposed to work the same way as a harpsichord, but instead of using feathers to pluck the strings, the clavichord uses little metal pieces.
Right? |

| The clavinet is the modern version of the clavichord (or at least it was in Hohners eyes...). It works off the same basic idea, except of striking the strings, the strings are plucked (and there is a giant single coil pickup inside).
Oh, and you guys have missed THE Clavinet song: Mr. Wonder's Superstition!!!
