Well this is only my opinion, so please don't jump on me for my taste in war movies please.

1. We Were Soliders, I bawled my eyes out on this, especially when the wives had to tell each other when their husbands died
2. Saving Private Ryan- I also cried at the end when Tom Hanks died, I thought it was very good
3. WindTalkers- I know a lot of people hated this movie, but I liked it, and again, I cried when I saw it.
4. Hart's War- I actually liked this, I thought it was very good
5. Tear's Of The Sun- I enjoyed this one as well
6. The Last Castle- Not really a war movie, but a prison one, but still one of my ALL time fave movies EVER. Robert Redfort, and Mark Ruffalo, were outstanding
7. Platoon
8. Patriot
9. Braveheart
10. Schindler's List

Those are my some of my fave war movies.......

The Battle of Algiers is the best war film ever.

Schindler's List makes me sleepy. Watch Resnais' short but powerful Night & Fog if you wanna see one of the greatest films about the holocaust. It's quite disturbing, and it runs for only 31 minutes. Criterion gave it a nice treatment, so it should be easy to find.
