| Amy's Devotional: 12/27/03 Proverbs 30:24-28
For the next four days, I will be concentrating on these four animals. Today, I'll be talking about the ant.
Agur(the author of this chapter) said that ants were unusually wise, because though they are not strong, they store up food in the winter.
Ants never know what the day will bring for them. They are one of the smallest creatures on the earth, and they don't know whether or not they'll still be alive the next second. But they always continue to work hard and store up as though they'll live for years longer. They keep looking ahead as far as life will take them.
Though they have small hope of a future, they spend all of their life working to make a future for others. They might not get to enjoy it, but others will, and so they keep on working.
As Christians, we need to work the same way. Sometimes, this spiritual life might seem hard, and unproductive. But in the long run, it will benefit more than we can imagine. Whether it benefits us or not doesn't really matter as much as whether we take advantage of every opportunity.
If we are to serve God with all our hearts, we must be willing to work for more than our own benefit. We must work for others, also. If we cannot look past ourselves enough to see the needs of others, then we are not truly serving God. We are just getting whatever we can out of Christianity. There are many "Christians" who want the benefits of God, not God himself. They love the perks, but not the Source.
When we have that kind of attitude, obviously, God is not pleased. Today, pray and ask God if that is your attitude. Sometimes, we don't even realize it, and we need God to tell us what our heart really looks like. God bless!
