01. YES. I love this game. I'm not that good, though.
02. My sister always makes alliances with me and then destroys me.
03. The LOTR version is fabulous.
04. It moves quicker, which I love.
05. And, the pieces and the map are so much prettier than in the original, haha.

I'm a fan of Risk. I've been working on my strategy. I have a few friends who are way better than me.

Haven't played LOTR version yet...

But as for the original...Art and I have said on previous threads that Australia (and its gateway country Siam) is everything. Whoever controls that, controls the world!!!!!!

Yeah, I like how the LOTR version ends before someone takes over the whole board, it makes it so much quicker.
My strategy is better than some people I've played, but I'm still trying to beat phats (Ian).
I haven't played for a while 'cause I dont have a board, the board is with phats in Christchurch, so hopefully I'll be able to play again when he comes up for the internship.

Every time I've played it I took over the whole board before the ring reached the end.

This is all legit and legal. PM me for more questions. If you sign up through my link and complete an offer, I will give you $10 after I'm given credit for your completion. The blockbuster deal is $10 and you get movies for a month and 4 in-store coupons for movies. So if you cancel before you're billed for the second month you basically are getting free movies sent to you and 4 coupons for free.

I get paid everytime you click this.

Ok, it's annoying when the ring gets stuck in Moria or the Wold (when you have to roll to get it out) and the game just goes on and on.
It's so easy to winif you take over half the board so you only need to protect around the mountains and get so many reinforcements each turn.
How many players do you normally play with?
I find 3 is good. 2 gets boring, and 4 can be really confusing/ difficult unless you gang up with someone.

I like Risk.

I wasn't entirely overwhelmed with the LOTR risk.
1) I like 6 players. As far as I'm concerned, board games are more about the social interaction than actually playing a game, so I like more players. I was hoping there'd be an expansion when ROTK came out, but that hasn't happened.

2) I found the board to be cluttered too much. I couldn't figure out which countries were actually connected very well.

3) The turn limiting thing is neat.

4) The little cards that give you special abilities are pretty stupid for the most part.

Yeah, when phats and I saw the board we thought there must be an expansion to come out sometime. How do you play with 6 players? How many countries/people etc do you each get?

Some of the countries were way too small esp. in the middle of the board so if you have lots of people in them it's hard to see the different countries.

I like that too, it means the game doesn't go on for too long esp. if you're playing against someone of basically equal strategy.

I reckon! We only liked two of the cards, one was under the mountain and the other was the one that you can take away other peoples men and add some to yours. We started making up our own stupid ones like: the black men take over Mithlond/ countries/ whatever or I can add 20 men to the shire/ where ever I'm attacking from.

I find Risk exciting if I'm playing with people that can actually play a decent game ie have strategy!
Risk is a good way to meet up with friends off line and socialise for a night. You need to socialise off line as well, and Risk is a good way to do that, that's what I think anyway.

Whoa, hold your horses nards... I would suggest, since you already acknowledge that there are different opinions, that you lay off the personal lives. There is no way you can honestly tell me that I don't have an 'off-line social life.'

Also, let me remind you that it's the holidays... ergo, class is let out until late January, there are going to be more people online more often.

However, for the people who are also thinking, "Risk is not my bag..." I can suggest many other games! I.E.:

Scene It - Just recently played, it's tough except for the early 80s-2001 movie buffs! We had a group of 20 broken up into groups playing. (you need a dvd player, becaus it has music and movie clips to go with the game board!)
Moods it could cause:

Mafia - An exhilirating 'card' game (meaning you use cards to select people, then they are not used until the next round) Aces- Mafia (aka- bad guys) Jacks- Sherriffs (aka-good guys) Everyone else - Innocent Citizens who will be killed off unless the sherriffs are that good. Execute the Mafia before their clan executes you!
Moods it could cause:

Limbo - No authentic Limbo stick? Shower rods work. Add music and I needn't say any more?

Off line socializing is for losers!

I played the post-apocolyptic version of Risk, where some countries are nuclear wastelands, ergo no one can control them. 'Twas quite fun.

I didn't intend for it to be taken like that, I meant that I find it a good thing to do for off-line socialising.

I realise that, but that doesn't necessarily mean the off-line socialising should stop/ decrease.

Ok, I can suggest other games too, but this thread was started to talk about risk, feel free to start threads about other games or whatever. Personally, I haven't tried Scene it. I've played Mafia once but we all guessed the mafia before they were caught, so that made it kinda boring, but it has potential. Limbo is ok.
