Legitimate Question to non-Calvinists: read on!

Currently I have been engaged with my pastor and youth pastor in discussion of Calvinism, seeing as how they are both Wesleyan and think me mighty silly. =D

The point came up:

Me: Can God's will be thwarted by man?

Wesleyans: Yes.

Where does anyone get this? Even when I was Wesleyan I didn't believe this. It really smashes what contentment I have with my church life I have left (for now).

My other question is: if God's will could be thwarted, how would anything good be accomplished?

I think that your Wesleyan friends are referring to Job 42:2 where it plainly says in no unclear terms that God's plans can, in fact, be thwarted by us super-powerful men. Some would also point to Isaiah 46:10 where it tells us how God can not accomplish all His good pleasure, but can only accomplish those things which man allows Him to accomplish. Afterall, it goes on to say in vs. 11, God is a gentleman and would never impose His will unless everyone else agreed to it.

Watch out. Univ. Student might think that verse is real.

So did y'all just decide to ignore the "legitamate" question that the thread asked, and just take pot shots instead?

Why would any honest non-calvinist bother?

Shame on all of you.

It'd kind of hard for me to answer a question not directed at me.

To prove that Arminians are, if nothing else, more mature than us silly Calvinists.

no, I was responding to Doc Worm.

And in hindsight I shouldn't have. It just set me off, I guess.

Sorry Worm & Luke.
