How animals get hurt, and die

So, how have your animals gotten hurt? how have they died?

Dad killed a chicken cause he wasn't forming properly (my poor dad! he couldn't bear doing that..).

I have had rabbits and birds and fish die from sickness.

With our rabbits... one died from getting let out on holloween and then torn by wild animals. I found one picked apart by birds. had some babies killed by cats. I think we had a total of 3 die from old age. One froze to death.

Now, this week, I have had 2 rabbits die from our neighbors little bogs, who's legs might not even be a foot long! And our rabbits were IN THERE CAGES.

Now, I have one rabbit who we are taking to the vet, hoping he will be ok, cause once again.. attack of the dogs. his feet were bleeding, and I still have the toe nail... I'm not sure if anything else was bleeding.

I am sorry about your rabbit.

- my friend filled my aquarium with chlorine instead of fish food and they all died.

- i tied my rabbit to a tree in the yard and he choked and died.

- i found six baby bunnies in my neighbors garbage can and i tried to rescue them but they were really sick and died.

- my cat ate cornbread and went crazy and died.

- my dog ate one of my little chicks; it obviously died.

- my dad put a poisonous frog in the tank with other frogs and nutes and salamanders and they all died.

- my other nute got out of the cage and starved and died.

- i wouldn't feed my tarantula baby mice, and so fed it lettuce but i guess that wasn't a good idea and it died.

- i didn't know WHAT to feed 20 baby mice so they died.

that's all i can remember. I love this thread.

My dog had to be put to sleep last August because he had cancer.

My nute is 11 years old, and should've died like 7 years ago. He sits there and is waiting to die. I think their average life span is like 3 or 4 years.

I found a baby turtle when I was in second grade, but he like dried out and shrivelled in my hand, which is mildly traumatic for a young child.

My friend and I filled a jar full of bees and made it our pets. They lived for a while, but I think they suffocated.

I don't have a pet but I'll let you know how I die, once I do.

That was my response too, along with oceans of tears.

I didn't know oceans contained tears. The salt thing makes sense now.

That's so sad about your rabbit!

We've lost several of our pets.

One of my rabbits rammed herself against the playpen weak spot and it snapped. (to this day, we still don't know exactly how she did it.) She escaped and by morning we fount rabbit bites out of a foxglove flower. (one of the most deadly plants for rabbits. They die within 24 hours.) My dog found her later that day. We didn't see any puncture wounds, so we know that my dog didn't kill her. I was very upset.

I lost Shannon's (one of my bunnies) entire litter due to exposure. I was away taking year end tests and she had them outside the nestbox. I still blame myself for it. (If I had been there 15 minutes earlier I probably could have saved them!)

One of Esther's (another one of my bunnies) kits died about 10 minutes after birth. Cause: unknown. That's extremely common in rabbits, and no one knows why it happens. Very sad really.

We've lost a good deal of guinea pigs too.

Jingles died right on my little sisters lap. We think she died from a genetic seizure condition. My little sister still tears up whenever Jingles is mentioned.

Rusty died from an impaction.

Gina died while we were away on vacation. Apparently she couldn't handle the heat, and she was Jingles sister and had enherited the same thing that Jingles had, but was able to live a little longer.

We lost one baby guinea pig, in Hermione's litter, and then we lost Hermione herself. It wasn't easy rearing the baby piggies, they were always hungry. We lost the runt after that.

Hamsters are so crazy. My friend has them.

Hamster brother and Hamster sister ate Hamster mother and then hooked up and had babies.

It was weird. So we set the babies loose in the library because they were mutants and they probably died.

*sigh.

I beat you all......... with the worst way an animal can die anyway. I have ducks, lots of them. One strayed out on to the ice in spring when the ice was thawing. It obviously could stand on it without falling in but we couldn't. A bald egal came and killed the duck. Then we had to venture out to gather remains (my neighbour was on a rope and didn't fall through)....... sad ain't it? We've had other ducks die too but they were sort of normal. By the way we did not witness the death. Good thread.

beat this...

my dog ate my hamster. i left it in it's ball thingie to roll around while i checked my email or something. by the time i got to it, my little shih-tzu had managed to pop open the rat ball and eat the head off of the hamster. yes, just the head. we had to clean up the rest of him along with the puddle of blood (kinda graphic i know).
